Good evening all,

I am new to the group and recently DkA and found out I am type 1.

Would anyone have a yoghurt recommendation as it co fuses me as they all seem to have amber sugars. Also any other snack ideas would be lovely. I already snack on almonds and walnuts but an alternative would be great in the mean time as I try nd get my head around all the information.

Thank you in advance

Welcome! I am T2 but when I started, I had a snack box. It contained cheese, walnuts, olives and pork scratchings.

Edit: Forgot the yoghurt, greek full fat. Wait for other T1s to chip in.

Yogurt is full fat real Greek, as most Greek-style have higher carbs.
When I started carb counting my go to cheese was cheddar (not fat reduced), with a large lettuce leaf wrapped round a slice.
I make my own pickled onions and pickled baby cucumbers as I love veg pickled in vinegar but most of the ones in the shops these days have sugar in them.
For a sweet snack a good quality 85% or 90% chocolate is OK for me - just slowly suck one square - or I carefully melt some 90% chocolate and stir in a little stevia based sweetener and double cream to make a low carb choc pudding.

Hi @S2uk87, are you carb counting or on fixed doses of insulin?
If you are carb counting then you can have any yogurt you fancy, as long as you bolus for it, if you are on fixed doses it's better to stick to the lower sugar ones, if you go for a plain one you can always add things to jazz it up.
I carb count and I like greek yogurt with some toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of honey
As for snacks, again it depends if you are carb counting or not, personally I like a bowl of salad or a few crackers. Or crisps
I know you have put you have type 1 in your post but it's helpful to add it to your profile as well, so people can see without having to ask, and then you can get more relevant answers to your questions

Thank you

Thank you I am on fixed insulin and carb counting. No bolus.

I will have a look at my profile again but any profiles I look at dont show what type of diabetes they are but thanks I will recheck

Are you using your phone? I don't think it shows up on there. You don't have to add it, it was just a suggestion
It's probably already been recommended to you, but carbs and cals is really useful for seeing how many carbs are in things, I have the book but there is an app too.

I am happy for any suggestions like you said it will help anyone should I have any further questions, and yes I am using my phone at present.

Brilliant thank you I will look up the book. Thanks for your help and suggestions
