My blood sugars started rising when I was on long term steroids. They slowly came down when I stopped the steroids. I then had a short course of steroids for a chest infection and since then have had raised blood sugars. As far as I can tell, from self monitoring, my fasting sugars are normal, but post meal can be in the 7's or 8's. I got a shock today when I had a reading over 13 after drinking something with sugar in. My last hbA1c was normal, but that was last year. I have made appointment to see my GP to discuss readings and get blood test, ideally hbA1c and Glucose tolerance test.
