    ‘Stop Eating After 7pm’ Challenge

I’ve only just seen this so I’m a bit behind the times. This challenge might make me stop my late night snacking. The hardest thing I remember having to do when I was first diagnosed exactoy 49 years ago, was to learn to eat when I wasn’t hungry. In those days you had a fixed amount of insulin...

How high is the dawn phenomenon ?

I’m not an expert on alcohol becuase I don’t drink it, but I do know that it lowers blood glucose. (that’s the main reason I don’t drink it; nearly fifty years ago at diagnosis I decided it would be yet another variable I didn’t want to have to deal with) So if you were having sugar free stuff...

Nurses using safety needles - are they working everytime??? Dementia and type 1

Do you know what food your mother is eating? Does she feed herself or do her carers prepare her food? The variations could be as simple as her eating more carbohydrates on some days than others. The latest pen injector for Levemir has the ability to download its past doses onto an app on a...

Very high Blood sugar overnight and still rising

This is just a suggestion, one of many possible causes: the continuing rise in the morning could be to do with what is known as the ‘dawn phenomenon’. Blood glucose often rises when you get going in the morning, when I last heard (twenty years ago on a DAFNE course), the reason was unknown. that...

    Car hypo treatment

I use small cartons of fruit juice as advised for hypo treatment by the DAFNE course I attended about 20 years ago. I keep them everywhere: in my car, by my chair in the sitting room at home, by my bed, in my camper van (I don’t use that much so sometimes they go out of date, but they still seem...

    Help re milk please

I’m not a medical person, nor have I heard of the diet you talk about, but 800cals caught my eye and my brain said ‘that sounds dangerous’. A normally healthy, reasonably active person needs around 2000kcals a day (depending on size, weight and loads of other things), so that makes 800 look very...

    First Libre Help

I tried using my phone to read my Libre just once. It was such a hassle that I went back to the reader. Phone: open fold over phone case, turn on phone, unlock phone, turn on app, wave uselessly at my arm until finding the matching place where the phone reads. Reader: take it out of pocket...

    First Libre Help

I had my Libre 2 for some time, I’ve lost count but definitely over a year. I have never heard of leaving it on for a while before activating, but that will have been because it probably hadn’t been discovered as a good idea when I first got mine. What I do do is calibrate the first few readings...

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

That comment was on only one of the many listed on Amazon, but still not one of them comes coloured any shade of brown that would be invisible on darker skinned people, some of whom I’m sure would, as I do, not want their patch to be obvious.

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

Thank you for the search pointer. I just looked at them on Amazon and they look amazing. Especially as you can get them in tan colour to match my skin. They seem a bit expensive, but when you divide their £19 by the 20 patches in the box, that’s 40 weeks’ worth, so only 50p a week. And I only...

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

You can get sticking plasters the right size for the non stick bit to cover the sensor and the sticky bit is just big enough to stick all round it. I use Mepore brand ones, but I’m sure there must be others the right size. You can buy the Mepore ones in big boxes quite cheaply. I only use them...

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

The sensor boxes used to come with a sterile pad in them to clean the area it sticks to. But they don’t anymore, cost cutting I suppose. Save a penny per box and it adds up to many pounds quite quickly for a big company.

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

I use Mepore plasters that come in the right size. They are white so a bit visible, you can get darker ones, but they are much more expensive. Reaching into the back of the car is a pain isn’t it? I’ve lost a few sensors that way when I forgot to cover them In T-shirt weather.

    Best Libre 2 Sensor Cover??

I use mepore plasters. You can get them just the right size so that the non sticky bit goes over the sensor leaving enough to stick all round it. But I don’t use anything in bath or shower, it should not be necessary as the glue is so good and very waterproof. With the plasters, all they do is...
