Ideally you should test just before bed, I find it reassuring knowing what my bg levels are before falling asleep.

Maybe for the next couple of nights test your bg levels two hourly to see what is happening.
I always test my bs b4 i get in and also adjust my insulin accordingly but i still have trouble sleeping i am so hot when i wake up my bs rises sometimes too
I am always worrying as i live alone

I have had the same thing myself. I was on lantus and as soon as i was put on this drug it stuffed my whole life up. Night sweats, Day and night, shaking and feeling very unwell. Had every test under the sun and nothing was found. Once i changed my insulin all there problems disappeared. In some people Lantus can have a very bad effect and this insulin is not tolerated by everyone. good luck..

Nothing wrong with my blood pressure as that is checked very regularly.
This was actually happening prior to my return to lantus. I was previously on novomix and before that on lantus.
After the blood tests and sleep study I will spent to my Specialist about alternatives to lantus. Though I am not going to go back on novomix as it is difficult for me to get consistent numbers using it

If you follow the dafne rules you should do a bm before going to bed and it should be between 6.5-8.0mmol if you still find your self going low maybe reduce your background insulin.
I find I need to be at least 12 before bed or I wake up very low....I always have some carbs before bed too....

I am having the WORST leg pain right now (bilateral). My bg levels have been fine, my doc even commented that I'm "barely diabetic" when I saw him earlier this week re the leg pain. So he is looking at everything under the sun for a different cause of the leg pain, to no avail so far. I also have tingling in my fingers (he knows this too). So far I've had an x-ray if my spine, sono of the legs, and today an MRI of the spine, and now he wants me to see a cardiologist. Meanwhile, I'm getting zero sleep. Is it possible this is from diabetes even if I have it under control? My fasting bg this morning was 114 and that is pretty average.

Found an awesome site with a great resource in regards to medications and possible diseases that can/may causes "hyperhidrosis". This form of hyperhidrosis is a secondary form as it is not developed in early years almongst a few other requirements.

www.sweathelp.org

Both the medications list and the diseases (of which diabetes is listed) are downloadable.

Three of my current meds are listed. Yay!! Something to talk about with my Specialist and my GP and see what alternatives if any there are that don't have such profound side effects for me.

I hope this information may help others.

T1 for 26 years. I have found the sweating happens occasionally, usually waking up from it but so far I've not be able to find a link with my BS.
For those having problems with Lantus. I was put on it many years ago and just like 'grand mort', it stuffed my life up. My parents said I was almost a different person. Anyway I made the decision (had to be quite forceful because the clinic was seriously pushing Lantus) and they switched me to Levemir. To be honest it's neither here nor there because 5 years ago I switched to pump therapy and haven't looked back!

Id say reduce your back ground insulin 12mmol is very high to go to bed on! Have you been on a dafne course? if not talk to you diabetes consultant/nurse about going on one it should be free but it will take a week of your time but is well worth it,i've had type 1 32 years and I strongly suggest it to every type 1.

So, if you have T1 diabetes, a good start is checking your blood if you're not feeling well.

Regardless of time of day or night, or situation, many things can affect your levels; emotions, stress, temperature, intimacy etc etc.

Use a bit of logic.

If your bloods are ok, then it's not necessarily diabetes related.

Have you checked your water? Do you have a UTI? You can buy test strips online for as little as £5 including postage, they will check all sorts of things in your water, including ketones - a must have in the house if you are diabetic.
Should'nt have to pay Bayer Ketostix should be on every type 1's script from your gp!

Hello. I'm Type 2 and have problems sleeping. Going to sleep is rarely a problem but staying asleep often is. I wake up, nip to the loo and often that's it for the next three hours. (I get through lots of books!) I also have very hot spells when the covers get thrown off (makes my husband a bit hot then) but if I test my blood then it's neither particularly low or high. Doctor puts it down to 'flushes' still but 25 years after the menopause and only during the night seems a bit strange. Is anyone else like this?

I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnoea and you can awake feeling very cold if your oxygen saturation levels have dropped suddenly and you're aroused suddenly, :)

Me!! Me!! Me!!
I am only 5 years post menopause.
I've just been informed via blood test I have no oestrogen but I must be producing some as my hormones in general are balanced.
I have been asked to think about HRT.
My hot spells can be any time day or night and can last up to 45 - 60 mins.

Hello. If you're not anti HRT I found it was great but was recommended to stop after ten years. (I hit menopause before I was forty) The only problem is that as soon as you stop it you're immediately back where you were before you started taking it.
