Hi Pavlosn
There comes a time when every parent HAS to take a step back and HAS to let go, if you don't do it now there will come a time when the child will say enough is enough and start pulling away from you, if you allow him the freedom now to choose but stay within reach to help when asked for that bond will be stronger between you.
Its a hard thing to do as we always want to protect our young ones, but if you can learn the trick now later it will pay dividends as he will know you will be there for him no matter what.
My son's piano school recital is this afternoon.
True to form, yesterday he was still trying to learn his allocated piece, Invention no1 in C major by Johan Sebastian Bach.
Here he is, still in pyjamas, practicing first thing out of bed this morning.
The incredible thing with him is that he is always convinced that it will be alright on the night. Annoyingly, he is usually proved right!
Of course I want him to perform well, but part of me can't help but think it would be educational for him to crash and burn for once, so as to find out that leaving things until the last possible minute is not always the best way.
At least he has a valid excuse for being somewhat unprepared this time round, as he was concentrating on school entrance exams recently.
And it was his 12th birthday yesterday

So he was busy celebrating with friends

My wife's birthday was on Friday and my 50th is coming up on Sunday.
So a time for celebrations in our household, although I am not sure I am too thrilled about turning fifty!
Look after yourselves.

This I came across when my now grown up children were small. I read it frequently to remind us of the responsibility we had to nurture these individuals that we had the privilege of having entrusted to us.On Children
by Kahlil Gibran
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Pavlosn, Happy belated birthday, hope you a great time celebrating the family and a good break, look forward to seeing you back on the forum soon. There is nothing we can do to stop time in its cruel ever onwards path.
Days and months and years rush by impervious to our wishes and unbending to our will.
Time is the most valuable currency we have.
We should take care to husband it well not waste it in frivolous and trivial pursuits. The best way , no, the only way we should spend it is in doing what matters most to us with those we care the most about.
As I reach today the milestone of my 50th birthday, the best thing I can think of for my future is that I wish to spend it creating happy memories for my loved ones to one day treasure.
Then I can perhaps look back and say that "yes there was a meaning to it all".
P.
P.s. Have a happy Easter everyone!
