Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.
Thanks will have a look...i take the Tramadol when ever a headache starts but they are getting less affective now ..will be interesting to see what happen when one of them is out of my system
Yeah, unfortunately when a tolerance is built up, it may be necessary to increase the dose or switch to a stronger drug such as morphine. Don't ask for it by name though or they will think you are "drug seeking", sigh. Drug abusers have made it harder for those who genuinely need adequate pain relief to get it. Best to just stress to the doctor that the current drug is not helping enough and say how much the pain is affecting your life. A good doctor will respond accordingly, a bad one will basically imply that you should suck it up. Grrr.

Also, I forgot about paracetamol. It can be very effective for pain if you take it 4 times a day for at least a few days, and it's side effect profile is very small.

I just had a look at that link you sent me ..O M G there is a high chance they can cause seizures if taken together and should be avoided..shurely the doctor would know this

Ugh... it's disappointing when they make mistakes like that, isn't it? I usually look up the info on that website whenever a new med is prescribed, just to check their work and to know what side effects might happen.

Well it looks like it was the interaction between the two tablets that caused the problem... i`m only taking the Tramadol now and there has been no headaches or fluctuations in bgs all weekend ...i would like to thank every one for their input and likes .it has been a worrying time for me but hopefully its over now.

I have been diabetic for three months now ..type 2 diet and exercise and i am a low carb diet ..i all so get cluster headaches ..the last few days my bgs have dropped to 3.5 3.7 and 3.8 each time i get a blinding headache as well ..then this afternoon i get a reading of 12.0 and another blinding headache ..my last 2 readings were 5.7 pre and post meal and can see no reason for these readings ..the low readings have all ways come in the evenings ..i all so drive hgv for a living can any one help because its freaking me out.

I am also Type 2 Diabetic. But my sugars have been pretty stable except when I'm sick, or hospitalized! Then they are all over the place, as you say! I(However, lately _ in the past 3 months, they have been unstable! am considering getting the pump or the Dexacom, which you wear like the pump but it sounds an alarm when you get low. (My daughter, who is also diabetic recommended this.) I think I didn't help much, but hope you do better!

Since I had a fall in the bath on Wednesday morning my BG has been between 4.7 fasting/ before meal's and as high as 13.5 after meal. My GP thinks that with this and my MELAS symptoms flaring up over the last few weeks I am starting a flare up, great:(. They have emailed my specialist in Oxford to see me ASAP.

Sorry to hear about your accident and the probably flare-up :( It's good that you have ketostix now. I've never measured blood ketones but I have read on the forum that it can be more accurate? I don't know, tbh. Might be something to ask about when you get a chance.

Hang in there and let us know how you are doing. Hugs.

Bullies, discrimination of any kind, bad manners, parents who let their kids run amok & spoil things for everyone else, unkind spiteful people, being a clumsy clod, toast crumbs in the bed, cold feet!!

Hi @loulou99782. So sorry to hear about your fall, & the consequences. If I remember correctly, MELAS is a very rare genetic disorder. Muscle problems is one of the many symptoms. Have I got the right disorder? I hope you get to see your specialist very soon. Until then, my best wishes. AJ. X

Hi @oldman1954. May I ask...have your headaches improved since stopping your Amitriptyline? I checked my drug interactions on the site @CatLadyNZ gave. Nothing of significance for me. But, it's going to be a very useful website that I've saved to my "favourites" list for easier access. I'm experiencing terrible headaches right now unfortunately. Still exploring the reasons why. Best wishes. AJ. X

Hi AJ you got it right there are 13 families in the world with MELAS and 6 in the UK that we know of. Muscle and balance problems are part of my symptoms as is diabetes.
Hopefully I will see the specialist in about a month and might get a phone call from them next week.
I am going to do a bit of shopping later with Dad
