    Diabetes snobbery

I do know that and said this was for me personally. It is also true that many diabetics haven't tried low carb because the orthodox advice is to dose for carbs. If you have an jba1c under 48 then congratulations as you are in a small minority of type 1s who meet that target and avoid...

    Diabetes snobbery

I am type 1 and apologise on behalf of anyone who feels they are morally superior to type 2s. It was non of her business. Many type 1s haven't got the memo about low carb but are sold the concept of carb counting and matching their dose. IMO it doesn't work well so my philosophy to avoid...

    Weight loss on pump

Likely that you are eating more carbs due to an incorrect basal rate or insulin:carb ratio. More insulin makes you feel hungrier and helps you lay down more fat.

    Who still wears their masks

I do not believe they stop air-born viruses like c19 so would not wear one either to protect myself or others. I feel sad when I see others still wearing them in late 2022 .

    Serum Lipids Results

I have similar numbers to you and was recently reassured to know that LDL in the context of a low carb diet and with great trig/HDL ratio, the majority of that LDL is going to be of the large fluffy and benign kind (if you believe that LDL is the 'bad; cholesterol. Lots of cardiologists don't...

Mixed feelings about 'Type One Talks' on YouTube

Don't beat yourself up. there is no disease that asks more of us the patient so its good to chat with people who experience it in real time and also struggle with carb restriction in a carb centric culture. On the plus side i feel that the fact that I've got this has made me healthier in the...

Mixed feelings about 'Type One Talks' on YouTube

Haven't seen this YouTuber but I'd concur with his message and yes it is depressing that the information given to me when I was diagnosed age 10 i.e. be very controlled with your carbs but fill up on protein and fats seems spot on to me. I have a pump and I have been on a Dafne style course...

    NHS is finished.

My sister is an A and E consultant reports that things are bad now with an acute problem caused by the inability of the wards to discharge healthy people to appropriate care. The covid policies e.g. restricting access to services and sacking unvaccinated 40,000 carers (note not the disease)...

Anyone else noticed just how much diabetic care has changed over the years?.

I have just paid for a private chiropodist as I have 40+ years of diabetes on the clock. I do think it was worth it having had the kind of rather superficial checks done by a busy clinic doctor. This person used the usual feathers and pin pricks but also the doppler scan and check for pulses...

Any current pump models feature an 'audio bolus'?

Sorry. Tandem has me confirming twice or thrice before I can even deliver a dose. And has a pre specified limit so you can't accidentally add a zero and overdose! I look forward to when I can give it voice commands but suspect most pump tech has a high safety barrier to avoid making it too...

Do you ever feel like giving up?

Sorry that you can't just 'sod it' !! Well you could but you'd feel pretty ill. I assume you mean that your blood sugars vary in an apparently random fashion even though you are doing the same things day to day? I think its pretty common amongst all type 1s and there may be genuine insulin...

Libre on prescription for type 2

I agree! Professor Patha Karr, head diabetes person in the NHS, is pretty good at shaming his colleagues who can't get their libre prescribing acts together. Try that on Twitter with the name of the CCG and/or Gp surgery perhaps? @parthaskar

    Long Term Diabetes.

Diagnosed aged 10 and can't remember not having it. There's no counter factual to prove that I would have been a steeple jack/airline pilot in my parallel non diabetic universe. I have gone though 3 challenging pregnancies and nearly lost my sight but it is what it is and I think I am very...

    Diabetes or Not

33 isn't diabetic (this number measures the average 'sugariness of your blood over 10-12 weeks) so is more indicative than the 'flash' readings you are taking. We can't diagnose you here but to me your sweating symptom sounds like some kind of reaction to a food. It may be useful to record...

    Gym

Sounds good and if you also go a bit lower on the carbs you will lose weight plus need a little less basal into the bargain. Lighter weights but high volume plus more intense cardio interludes is a good way to go so best wishes for this exercise project! You can always balance out the more...

    Gym

I workout regularly and I am also a trainer so my first question would be why are you planning to go so often? This is quite a commitment and it could be better to go consistently 2-3 x per week before you build to this intensity unless you've got a deadline that really requires this...

Is it possible to use 'temporary basal' on t:slim x2?

Hopefully the flu shot reaction has calmed down. I've also gone from AcuChek to Tandem but find it very easy to set a profile up as described above because you don't need to set it up for each hour of the day. e.g. a illness/PMT etc. I think it is worth the 5 minutes it will take you as it is...

my weight has stalled for 5 weeks on low carb .why is this.

Forget the speedo s then and go for a head shot to see the changes! As a trainer I know the scales aren't a great indicator of your actual 'fatness' so all I am saying is try not to let them be your only judge of success. It concerns me a little that you are relying on oxempic as an appetite...

my weight has stalled for 5 weeks on low carb .why is this.

i think there are some great tips above* and whilst the internet is full of keto miracle stories of losing 12 stone in a year, most people's loss isn't continual or linear but should continue eventually. Excess fat weight is the symptom and not the cause of metabolic disease which has taken...

    Statins are getting a Makeover

Clever since nobody will be able to pin down what's caused the side effects and if it doesn't work you can increase dosage (see statins, diabetes drugs and oxycontin). I bet if they can alter metformin by a molecule or 2 they can add that one in and market it to those suffering from metabolic...
