[QUOTE="Lazybones, post: 451318, member: 85347"] Hi there, I'm not sure what the 11.2 reading you mention refers to. If it is your morning fasting blood glucose level taken after a 12 hour fast then a reading of 11.2 mmol/l (Plasma) is indeed too high and would indicate that you are definately diabetic. If this is the case then this reading by itself would not require you to undertake a further test to confirm that you have diabetes. On the other hand the reading of 11.2 that you mention might refer to your HbA1c reading which would also show you to be diabetic otherwise the 11.2 reading could refer to countless other results some of which are not directly related to diabetic diagnosis. I realise that several of your close relatives have diabetes and this is also worrying you, but try not to get unduly worried as this can also raise your blood glucose levels. Your doctor should have explained to you what the recent test results showed in greated detail, but even at the end of the day should he/she confirm that you are diabetic, diabetes with careful control is something that millions of us have and successfully manage to live our daily lives with. As for the forthcomming Glucose Tolerance Test, you should eat/drink as you normally do in the week that preceeds the test and inform them if you are unwell for any reason (colds, fever, illness) prior to the test, as being unwell can effect the end result. Its nothing to worry about, but I should point out that it is usually only undertaken with a patient who is hovering about the diabetic threshold and not a patient who has a 11.2 mmol/L fasting Blood Glucose, so I'm perplexed as to why they would ask you to undertake such a test in the first place.
