Hi
I joined Slimming World recently, was wondering if anyone else had tried it or was doing it? No idea how I did it but my first week I managed to GAIN 1.5lbs!!! I really want to lose weight, ive upped my exercise routine, generally stick with walking at the moment and my diet has changed. Im eating a lot of salad with either grilled chicken or steak and very small amount of carbs. So why am I not losing the weight??

Hi Aimee
Have a look at Viv's low-carb post on this forum they're brilliant! You'll soon notice a difference...
You'll soon see results. Although everyone instructs us eat a 'Healthy Diet' us diabetics need to tweak that instruction because our needs are not the same as non-diabetics
Get an HbA1c & cholesterol test as well as weighing yourself before you start so that you can compare your results
Best wishes

Can you please aware me on Slimming World, what does it entail? What do you do?

Are you counting calories? That's the main key is losing weight, eat at a deficit you will lose weight. Eat at surplus you will put on weight.

Also what kind of exercise are you doing? If you're doing anything that is potentially building muscle mass, you could see an increase in weight, but that's not a bad thing. Judge it by how you look.

Despite what the poster above says, a diabetic can eat what a non diabetic eats as long as you take your medication/Insulin. If medication fails to control your blood sugars and you're not eating copious/excessive amounts of carbs you simply need Insulin.

Masking the issue is never a good idea.

See now I am confused! Went to a diabetic meeting and was told Slimming World not V Good for me as type 2. Reason given was that days are broken down as protein(red) and Carb(green) as a rule of thumb. I would have to start using Syns to give me extra carbs on a red day and Syns to give me extra protein on green days. Been on Slimming world on and off before being diagnosed type 2 and it does work.

Hi Aimee,
I joined Weight Watchers just over 2 years ago. They give each portion of food a points rating. They calculate what your consumption of food in points should be and thats what you eat. I joined when I was just under 18 stones. I am now at about 12.5 stones, so I lost about 5 stones. Sorry to sound a bit vague but I left WW when I had lost 2 stones as I felt I could do it by myself. I never found out if WW made any allowances for diabetics, I don't think I told them I was type 2. I also lost all that weight whilst eating what would now be considered a high carb diet by some on this forum. It's confusing! I used to eat at least 1 banana a day, usually 2, and handfulls of grapes, all bad it now seems, but at WW, all good! Free points! What made the WW diet, or lifestyle I prefered to call it, was the fact that because the foods had a points rating it was much easier to work out what you could eat each day and plan ahead.
Good luck with the weight loss, I not only lost 5 stones I also lost the need to take several tablets a day for the diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol. No meds for the db now, all diet controlled.
Lee.

Thanks for the reply Gary, it was actually the Diabetes advisor at a Spotlight meeting that said to eat carbs with each meal. Also she said do not eat your lunch and dinner without carbs or indeed do not just have a plate of carbs ie beans on toast!! See why I am confused now!!! Blissfully ignorant before :0)

my ds (diabetic specialist) actually wanted me to cut carbs out of my diet TOTALLY, but i believe that to be a bit extreme, so i just reduced them to approx 100g a day, and i have lost approx 1st in past month

Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Diet only
I did slimming world in the dim and distant past many years before diagnosis - It is the only diet where I stuck to it like glue and put weight on - never really liked it - in those days you didn't mix your days you were either a red or green dieter and could have one a day a week on the opposite plan,

I remember a girl doing green days as she was a vegetarian and was eating big platefuls of "free food" pasta - she was piling the weight on and the lady who took the class said she needed to limit her free foods - that's when I called it a day -Felt conned how can a food be "free" and limited at the same time? :?
