Bad Reaction to Levimir

Hair, Dogs, Spiders, Rain & Ignorant people!
Hi guys

The hospital have recently swapped me from Lantus (once a day) to Levimir (split twice a day) and my sugar levels have been really really good, my mood's better and I feel more relaxed as I'm not stressing about high/low sugar levels.

I only swapped a week ago but keep on getting red lumps where I've injected, about an inch or so in diameter, I thought that it may have been me injecting in a bad spot at first, but I keep on getting them, they're quite tender as well, but go down after 24 hours or so.

I have spoke to my diabetic nurse this morning and she said that it may be a "local reaction" to the levimir and that they might have to swap me back to lantus - not the answer I wanted to hear really! :(

Has anyone else suffered from this problem and have you found a way around it??

Thanks :)

Lack of choice of insulin for newly diagnosed patients.
Dog owners who let their dogs poop in the street-a hazard for most, but worse if you're visually impaired!

HI Pinkjinks
Unfortunately reactions to analogue insulins are more common than with any other insulin type. If you can't tolerate Lantus or Levemir there are there are other insulins available.
I had problems on Lantus and changed to Porcine insulin nearly 3 years ago, with great results health and BG wise. Synthetic Human Insulins are also available and a list of all insulins is on the diabetes.co.uk website. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/insulin-in-the-uk.html
You should contact the Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust (IDDT). They'll be able to offer you good advice. Here's a link to their website http://www.iddt.org/here-to-help/contact-us/
best of luck
