I'm on 68 units of lantus in the morning and between 20 /30 units of humalog at mealtimes. Sometimes I bleed afterwards. I rotate my sites, I inject lantus in my upper thigh and humalog in my stomach. Any ideas why this is and is this affecting my dose?

why can't everyone get on........
this is a pretty general answer - but you are nicking blood vessels which is causing the bleed.

what length needles are you using ? perhaps a shorter needle could help.

have you tried injecting your Lantus in your upper backside to give your thighs a rest ?

I have injected for 43 years in total and unfortunately bleeding sometimes is one of those --- OH **** moments:eek: -- but you sort of just have to get on with it.:(
usually when I bled I normally got a whacking bruise tooo_O

Bleeding just means you've hit one of the small capillary blood vessels under the skin, to ensure that you get the full insulin dose leave the needle in the skin and count to 12 (slowly) before withdrawing it.

Thanks for the advice. I use 4mm needles. I might try and use my backside for a change. I always leave my needle in for at least 10 seconds so will leave it a bit longer.
