Hi all I've been self testing since 17/11/16 tests ranging from 5.4 - 11.2 but I'm confused with today's tests they are as follows :

0700 fasting test 6.6
0715 had coffee ( no sugar )
0845 pre breakfast test 6.8
Breakfast was bacon onion red pepper cheese 3 eggs cream more cheese then baked ( it was delicious)
1045 post breakfast test 5.6

Should my BG no be increasing rather than lowering???

Any thoughts

Good result @Terryrhino , how long after the first bite was your 5.6?
Your breakfast look really scrummy, and how many carbs, 5?
I dont think there was anything in that breakfast to convert into blood sugar :)

5.6 test was exactly 2 hours after first bite not sure of carb intake but I know it was very little!
If you can eat all that food you should try it it was so satisfying

Worry not that's on my breakfast rota from now on
Beats porridge anyday
Given that you have been mobile, and absorbing BS I think that is a fairly indicative result

I think your numbers are perfectly normal and very fine, it is a usual problem that blood glucose is raised in the mornings, because of the liver tranforming proteins into glucose from liver reserves, the same reason that glucose raises when we are ill and not eating at all, your breakfast hardly had any carbs in it, so thats why it didn´t raise more, the number 2 hours later is a Picture of how your levels are when/if your liver is not spitting too much glucose out and it is a very fine blood glucose number so be proud..

we are many that hate our raised morning blood glucose, as it is high even when we have done everything we could almost to keep numbers down..
this is called the dawn phenomenon as it is usual in the dawn, some think it is so because of the time we were hunter/gatherers and had to go hunting in the early daytime , to have enough energy to go for hours without eating untill we had the luck of catching something to eat..diabetics type 2 does it even more than non-diabetics our livers are in general overactive
it seems you are doing fine with your diet abd thats why it doesn´t raise ...

The other day I kicked off at 4.7 fasting, and a couple of hours later, two readings one after the other, both 4.1 My breakfast is always the same and has around 14g carbohydrates! This had never happened to me before!

Quite new to testing but it genuinely confused me as I thought all foods would raise my BG but I guess not ?
I'll be interested to see what my next result will be

Hi Terryrhino,

First of all, congratulations on your results.

I think the answer is the protein in the bacon, eggs and cheese, which causes your pancreas to release insulin.

Your breakfast definitely sounds like a keeper.

Cant see where eating a large breakfast can help to loose weight. I go to the gym .smaller meals less carbs drink water more. When i was first diagnosed t2d . just over 2 years ago my mmols readings 136 . my diabetic team told me. I was off the scale chart reading. Came out 14 tablets a day .

How is this related to the OPs original testing? I am not sure the OP is trying to lose weight and actually if that is all he has for the day and fasts for the rest it would be a great start of each day. His carb intake is probably mainly from the onion and any excess converted protein. The point is he has a little bit of Dawn Phenomenon and after eating his body wakes up and his levels are actually lower than he started on. This is what has confused him.

It is great that you eat smaller meals and go to the gym and that helps you control your BG levels. Why not create an introductory thread in the greetings section and tell people your story. We all like to hear success stories
