I am on a number of pills, but for my diabetes i am on Levemir and Metformin - i was on Glimepiride and another injection Victoza - its all stopped working and my doctor has taken me off the latter and put me on Forxiga, it has alot of side effects, its a new pill (google it lol) and 2 weeks in my blood sugars are high, they were 21.2 earlier, gone down to 19 now. I am going to see the nurse on friday, but all she says is well you can come off them if you want. I really dont know what to do, i dont want to go to the hospital as i do have terrible phobias, and am fed up of being lectured. I have put loads of weight on (partly due to stopping smoking) which does not help. argggghhhh dont know which way to turn :arghh:

I gave up smoking about 10 months ago and the Victoza helped me not put lots of weight on. When things spiralled out of control and had to go on to insulin the specialist at the diabetes clinic kept me on Victoza to counteract the weight I would put on.

Hi Layne,

I too am on Dapagliflozin and I have not suffered any of the complications mentioned so far (quick touch wood :banghead:) Its difficult to say if I have seen any benefits either as just a few months after I was prescribed it, I altered my eating radically and started losing weight:). I don't think it made my bg rise though.

I had previously been on Byetta and found no benefits. I started with a slimming club and lost a fair bit of weight then my weight loss came to a stop. I asked my consultant if I could go onto Victoza and he agreed. My weight loss started again, but I never found that it curbed my appetite, eventually I was taken off it as he felt this new drug would perhaps be better for me, its also a lot cheaper I believe.

I now know after 45 years of dieting, that its what you choose to eat that makes you gain or lose weight. I'm a slow learner :wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

Hope this helps.

I have the support of my husband, but have not long moved to a new aarea, where hopefully its better for my health!
I will persevere, sort a new diet out, -----Oh - did you read that this drug makes you hungry :)
I feel a little better knowing that someone out there is getting on with it rather well - well done you!

Hi i have recently been put onto Dapagliflozin and the doctor told me side effects could be rapid weight loss to which i have no objection i have taken 10 pills so far and dropped 7lb in weight already :) however the other side effect which could occur as this drug makes you pee sugar out nicknamed (sweetpee)could lead to urine infection and thrush,i'll deal with that if and when but the weight loss is a bonus

I started dapagliflozin on Wednesday and hoping that it will help with losing weight. I have lost 19lbs since 9th Jan on my own, so hoping I can lose more with this drug. My bloods are within normal range at the moment, I use insulin and Metformin as well as this new drug.

I hope it doesn't make you hungry lol - I don't need any help in that Department!

How did you get on with the Nurse yesterday? Did you come to any decisions.

Broncofx - well done on your loss so far - I hope to get similar results :)

Went to see Nursey, she was great, because i wont go to the hospital, she even rang the Rep for the Forxiga to ask if i can carry on taking Glimepiride with hit, he said no - its Licensing, its Licesnsed in Scotland to take with other things, but not in England!!! Crazy - but with my bloods going up and up they have decided to change my insulin, so as from Wednesday is will come off Levemir and go onto Humalog Mix25 - to be done 2 a day, before meals, its a mix - one is a background one like Levemir, the other gives you a big hit, and should help. We will see.
AND YES........... I LOST WEIGHT TOO - but am still starving lol
Well done you all - this could be our little support network :)

That's good, hope the new insulin does the job, I am on Humulin M3 and its a mix too.

I was told by a dietician a few years back, that I should be making all my meals about the same portion size. I had always been used to making my evening meal the "big one" and only eating a little for lunch with no breakfast. I have tried to follow that advice and it usually keeps me from feeling "hungry", but there are times when I imagine I want food and right now, so its normally a bottle of diluted juice and that sort of fools me that I have been fed. :joyful:
Yep, support found here anytime :)

Will keep you informed on the insulin, must admit i am a little scared.
I used to run pubs with my husband, and i was the cook, so i know about portion sizes, when i had my heart attack my diet changed totally, so i am fed up of hearing from dieticians etc about do this do that - just leave me alone!!!! My new Nursey is very good with me and knows when to keep her mouth shut LOL - bless her., gave me the back-up pills for any side effects with the forxiga.
The juice idea sounds like something i will take up - thanks for that little gem ;)

Thanks Chris - how are you doing?

Layne, how are you getting on?

Thankfully no sign of a UTI or Thrush yet! I'm hoping if I keep my blood sugars level then the songbird won't get me - used to get it quite a lot when my blood sugars were out of control!

I must admit Forxiga is doing wonders for my steps - I think I've worn a groove in the carpet at work running backwards and forwards to the loo lol.

Ahhhh, I see. My GP wouldn't give me meds "in case", its a case of making an appointment as and when and hoping I get them. No, that's not fair he is actually very good.

I know starting any new treatment can be scary, but once you start feeling better it will all be worth it. I have been reading the book "think like a pancreas", have either of you two ladies read it? Its fascinating and so informative and I am picking up so much more diabetic knowledge.

Karen I haven't been running to the loo at all, I didn't even know that was one of the side effects lol, looks like I haven't read the packaging blurb at all doesn't it?
