That's very encouraging but I find the phrase "abnormal glucose metabolism" a bit vague. What is the cause of it?

I think they have been searching for the actual trigger of impair brain glucose metabolism for a while...because they have observed it in Dementia/Alzheimer patients.

These are some of the interesting studies/papers

Impaired brain glucose metabolism leads to Alzheimer neurofibrillary degeneration through a decrease in tau O-GlcNAcylation.

Effects of Insulin on Brain Glucose Metabolism in Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Weight loss after bariatric surgery reverses insulin-induced increases in brain glucose metabolism of the morbidly obese.

For now...we don't know what triggers the condition, it has been proposed that being in ketosis seems to help when the brain gets fueled by ketones.

Metabolism and the Brain

Historically, insulin-shock therapy, also known as insulin coma therapy (ICT), was a form of psychiatric treatment in which patients were injected daily for several weeks or even months with a large dose of insulin in order to induce a coma. After about an hour in the coma, the treatment was ended by the administration of glucose.

Could we be subjecting ourselves to insulin induced coma with chronically high refined carbs diet?

On the other hand, some think it is the fats... :D

This is not what I've been described as!
However, during my hypo hell period this is what happened to me!
I'm certain that it is excessive insulin or hyperinsulinaemia.
The number of scientific papers and research that I've read and what my own personal knowledge and experience have shown that there is a connection between all the glucose/insulin levels, plus how your glycogen and glucagon react to the gut brain trigger to digestion and the amount of glucose produced from that meal. And how your brain copes with the imbalance of low glucose in your blood.
Insulin resistance is also has a major impact on how imbalanced your blood is, especially over a period of time.
People can have excessive insulin years before symptoms appear, that lead to prediabetes or type two diabetes.

I started a reply to the original post saying that insulin is in there somewhere and has an important point been missed. I erased it due to not knowing what I was talking about so your post is of great interest to me.

Because of the high insulin that I was producing before doing very low carb diet, it was clear to me and my endocrinologist, but I found out from Brunneria about how hyperinsulinaemia affects everything when in sufficient quantities to cause the many symptoms which our brains.
But because of the high glucose levels as well as the high insulin levels and insulin resistance, the brain can't function on these abnormal levels.
There are many symptoms that effect the brain, the major one I suffered from was anxiety. Depression, memory loss, forgetfulness, awareness, brain fug, and many others are well known to the specialist endocrinologists that have studied RH.
Even the hypos that effect most diabetics having symptoms that the brain is telling us something is wrong but when you don't know, how can you treat it?

This has been discussed a few times on the RH forum.

I forgot about the importance of insulin in weight gain.
My weight increased gradually for years despite being on a so called healthy diet and not eating much. But it was full of carbs, which set off my insulin overshoot and it wasn't until I was referred to my endocrinologist and low carb.
