Diabetic retinopathy and pregnancy

Last year my doctor told me I'd
Go blind if I got pregnant, due mild signs of the dreaded eye problems. Obviously this terrified me. I'm now 21 and would love a child in the future. But I'm terrified. Has anyone had a pregnancy while suffering the starting signs of eye problems that can give me a more realistic idea of
The dangers.
I don't tend to trust doctors,
They can only ever no what the text book tells them

Hi Beth, you need to ask to be referred to an eye consultant and also your endocrinologist, so that you can discuss your worries and concerns with them. Hopefully they can come up with a plan for a safe pregnancy for you in the future. You can help yourself though but taking as much care of yourself as is possible so any damage is minimal.
