A specialist would obviously be everyone's first choice but not everyone is afforded the opportunity unfortunately.

I agree with Catherine, there are HCPs on the forum but an HCP could only give general advice and would then recommend contacting your GP or DSN for further discussion. We are all individuals.

Soooo true!!! I'm an administrator in a GP surgery and work very closely with do called 'specialist' diabetic practice nurses..... They know nothing, honestly, they sometimes talk together about patients they've seen and the advice they have given and I sit cringing in science with my head in my book!!!! , i stay well away from my own GP surgery and stick to the specialists.

That's true. They trust the doctor and do what they are told, or they think the pills will sort everything out for them, or they deny that they have a serious condition, or they don't really understand that they have one, or they intend to do something about it tomorrow and so on and so on. It's called the Human Condition.

It's why we pay doctors out of the tax we pay on our salaries, and in some cases, our pensions.

A lot of my schoolmates went into medicine, law, dentistry, accountancy etc and I met a fair few at university.

I find it's better to beware of people claiming their book will make you the expert personally.

I think most GP's no longer have the time available for reading anything other than the instructions on their microwave dinners, which may well explain a lot of whats wrong with the NHS

There have been some "interesting" hcps over the years.

Dr Jay Wortman was banned by previous admins then there was a lady hcp who started world war 3 and another really obnoxious Dr who called all the well controlled T2s liars as they couldn't possibly be controlling their bgs that well and anyway its was all their own fault.

Dr John Briffa is also a member but I haven't seen him post for quite sometime.

Hcps have been fun and it would be great to see some more!

It's a great shame really, it would have been good to actually read a professional study of a low carb diet that makes similar claims to the Newcastle diet.
Missed opportunity for the entire world if it could be verified.

Well guess what, I have been to see my diabetic nurse today, she does read what's on the forum, she said she gets all her tips from it and passes it on to her patients, all done in the best possible taste lol.
