Hi, I'm not on a diet per say; but I do try to eat higher fibre and limit my carbs. I don't try to "low carb" as such, just not go overboard. My average day would consist of about 100 - 130g of carbs; not sure how that compares to other diabetics. I never hear fibre being mentioned by health professionals in relation to diabetic eating anymore. It was a key part when I was younger and certainly still helps to iron out any bumps for me. Today the focus seems to be on "you can eat anything you want, just count it and inject for it". This is well and grand to a certain extent, but for those that wish to improve their well being further, I do feel that some info on healthier eating relating to diabetes would be helpful. Fibre wasn't mentioned at all in a recent DAFNE type course I attended, until I asked for info on it at the end of the talk. (Then again, maybe I'm outdated and it isn't really of help??) I do have "blow outs" (usually involving wine and crisps....) occasionally, but try to cover these with my insulin to minimise damage. With injecting and taking care of my diabetes more I'm putting on weight (not to mention giving up on running and other activities due to joint and eyesight issues). But for now my focus is on my BG levels. Once I've a better handle on those I'll start to think more about my weight and how to get on track with that.
