I have just mixed up my pens

I have type 2 had it 5 weeks now was put straight on to inslin
I take novo rapid in the morning ( 5)
Then levemir (6 ) in the evening with 500mg metforin

I have just taken my BG it was 4.5 before my dinner
Taken my injection but instead of taking levemir I took 6 of rapid......

What should I do
I'm going to eat now and keep my eye on my BG but should I take my levemir later ???

Hi Katalina,

Its easy to get them mixed up I did it the other week and took 17 units of Novorapid instead of Levemir. You need to eat 60 grams of carbs and I would still recommend taking your Levemir at the usual time or you will end uo with high sugars tommorow.

Hope this helps.

First you may need to eat more carbohydrates than normal so keep checking your glucose levels.
The novo will be at it's peak about 2 hours after eating and out of your system in 4-5 hours.
Personally I would take my long term, for the same reasons as shop said but as you haven't been on insulin long and you're not taking rapid at every meal I would ring NHS direct for advice on that.
