Have nt been on here in ages. Trust you are all well
Thought I had made steady progress....until yesterday.

Had light meal at tea time...a small portion of home made gluten free quiche...some salad leaves and 6 tiny jersey potatoes, and six asparagus spears..(so good!!). Nothing I havent had before. Plus usual 500mg metformin SR.

About an hour later...felt so cold...I was shivering literally from head to foot....clammy...and really spaced out. Had trouble pushing buttons to answer phone to my sister. Went to bed...with hot water bottle...and bed sox (not elegant...but I dont care).
Havent slept well at all.
It took about 2 hours for the shivers to go. I do have an absess on thigh. Is this enough to cause all this grief??

I am scared daft.

This morning..I am still spaced out..and not myself.

What have I done wrong, please??

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish, don't know how much I can help as I'm new myself but I can try!

Do you have a testing meter to see what your blood sugars were like when you started feeling bad?

It's also perfectly possible it was nothing to do with diabetes or what you ate. Is your abcess being treated? Is it possible you could have an infection or that antibiotics aren't working? I would say if you still feel unwell it might be worth a trip to the Dr.

Hope you feel much better very soon.

Thank you for the response. Am still puzzled.

I do have a meter..dont test often (I buy my own strips...)..and provided I dont do owt daft...am usually there or thereabouts to a decent score. So I dont test often...unless I am clearly off colour for some reason.

I did test Wednesday evening....before the shakes took hold...and it was 21.....which should have told me ....(wear my specs!!).
Am back tracking on the meter....

Yesterday...came home from work...still felt spaced out...and went to bed for the afternoon...slept for about 3 hours.

Am grateful for advice from another lady at work....it was her that told me sleep is the best thing. OK..I live alone....and do have several phones around the house.
Test this morning was 8.6....so what ever is/was...is correcting itself.
What I am still puzzled..is why??
Thank you in advance....

hi... if you had that sort of reaction I'd say it possibly was a hypo you were having. Are you sure your meter said 21 or 2.1??? If you have a bad hypo it can be hard to recover from it.... it takes a while for your body to adjust. If you are anything like me, potatoes can't be trusted. In fact any vegetable carb is dodgy for me. What I mean is I either go too high or crash too low suddenly after eating them. Maybe this happened to you??? I've had this happen to me a fair bit over the years so I don't really trust veg carbs too much and I test a lot if I do eat them. A dietitian told me to include grain carbs with vegetable carbs to avoid hypo... eg... mix it a bit without going overboard. I can have a hypo within 1.5 hours after eating roast vegies with the family. I thought I had a theory for it... but not too sure as I mentioned it's not predictable.

Have at last been to see the Diabetic nurse. Hand smack time again...but not much more I can cut out of diet...as both the Coeliac and diabetic life style arent easy..and I am hungry most nights when I go to bed.

Nurse was not a lot of use...sorry and sad, but true.

Not at all concerned about me...so it looks like I will have to sort this out for myself. Even my dentist has written to GP about my deteriorating self. So its noticeable....

I can have an appointment to see GP....sometime in 2 weeks time..(but they dont know which day)...and as I work...this isnt good enough. I dont want to get involved with the numbers game etc....I am more bothered about ME....(someone has to be)

Still feel **** or spaced out.
Readings are back to about 2 points higher than normal. No obvious infection anywhere. Still cant sleep on tummy...too painful. My small kitty walked up my body...(she likes to purrrrr in my face to wake me)...and even Smokie's steps hurt my tummy.
Hair is like straw..(something it has never been), nails are awful (use gel on my hands...but toe nails are a good guide.).
Go from no energy..(Ok working a lot doesnt help)to feeling very sicky. Cold all of the time.

Really have had enough of feeling so rough. I dont expect a magician...but what now??
Answers on a postcard, with £50 cheque to my holiday fund....

You should change drs ! if they do not have the help and support there for you they not very good clearly how much insulin you on and what do you eat? The wat u are feeling is caused by lack of insulin phone your local hospital and speak to a diabetes specialist you must be on the ball dnt give up.

Sorry, not a lot of option on changing Drs.

I am a Type 2...and do try to keep to my regime...but its more a case...of what is banned on one list..is allowed on the other...and if I really try...can find thing banned on both....its boring, its not a full and varied diet. There is no stopping off for a quick bite with friends...Its a prison...no obvious walls...but thats what it is....

Bored, fed up...tired to bones...cold, no energy. and this is ok?? no...

Ask to be referred to diabetic consultant at the hospital. You may have to push hard for it, but insist on speaking to the practice manager and then you MP if you get no result. You need some guidance to help figure all this out. Good luck and don't give in till someone listens.

Hi Apricot! From what I can see you're only on metformin - is that right? If so, you may need to look more carefully at your diet or talk to the doctor about a different medication regime. Your readfing of 21 was WAY too high, and your fasting BGs are too high as well. The "quiche" bit to me was a clue as to perhaps dietary issues. You preceded your description of "quiche with 6 tiny potatos" with "a light meal". But quiche is flour; bad. And even though they're small, 6 jerseys is quite a lot to go with it.
You need to get your BGs down quickly I'd say. May help to send us a description of a couple of typical days meals that we may be able to help with. But if you keep getting BGs like you have, you'll need to go back to the Docs I suggest.
It could be that feeling so bad was as a result of an infection and that raised your BGs so much, but that was an old post - has that side improved now?
