Does anyone else have experience of hip pains during the night? I can't decide whether I need a new matress or this is some kind of new problem associated with Type 1 Diabetes. I am 50 and was diagnosed 13 years ago. I get pains under my buttocks when I walk a long way and hip pains - like a kind of cramp or trapped nerve pain during the night - either in one or both hips. I went to the doc about 6 months ago but nothing came up in blood tests....

How is the flexibility of your leg? Can you lift your leg up towards your chin? I was told not to worry because that leg lift is pretty much all I cannot do but it has got worse and worse.

Hi Vicky_Salmon. I get similar pain and find it extremely painful to turn over in bed. I put mine down to "wear and tear" in my spine and hips. Maybe worth a re-visit to your GP to check it out???

@Vicky_Salmon I have had similar issue over the years.
If it is on the outside of your hip / buttock it probably is not your hip!!!
I went to a specialist who advised hip pain tends to come from your groin.

I would imagine it is a hip bursitis.

Mine became very painful and tender and was ultimately related to tight ITbands and weak gluteus maximus ( bottom muscles)

Stretching , and squats required.
