Type 2 Insulin not working?

DIABETES, I should be kicking it’s **** but it’s got a hold on me and can’t get out.
Over this last 2 weeks,I’ve taken my insulin 44 in the morning and 16 at teatime, every 2 days I up this by 2 units. Every day I’m nowhere near getting my number down, yesterday at 4pm I checked my libre 2 and I was on 27.4 then I went to HI so have to self test then and it went to 29.7.
This morning i woke to 23.1 and have had nothing this morning but my sugars are again 26.3 and rising all because I’ve done some cleaning and stuff. Diabetic nurse isn’t helpful, all I get out of her is up it every 2 days.
Where am I going wrong? I haven’t got the energy to fight this every single day.

Hi,

Have you double checked the Libre figures against a blood test meter?
Your profile suggests you are prescribed “Humulin.” Is this correct?
 
Yeah I’m on humulin i, i get the nearly the same results on my meter, like maybe 26.4 on libre and 25.9 on meter,so only small amounts of variance.

I’m not familiar with Humulin. But it sounds like a basal or background insulin?

Is it the last 2 weeks since you started insulin?
Or when the BG issues arose?
 
I’ve been on this one for about 2 months now and it was fine to start with but it’s been useless for slightly more than 2 weeks. Humulin i is a mix insulin 70%slow acting and 30% short acting…. I used to be on 100% long acting humulin but that didn’t work at all from the start. I’ve not injected this morning as i want to find out if i get the spike around 4-5pm tonight like i have this past 2weeks. If I don’t then I kind of think it’s the insulin and will stop.

Does your Humulin come in disposable pens, or cartridges for a reusable pen?
How is the insulin not in use stored?
In the last 2 weeks have you started a new batch of insulin?
 
Disposable pens, my insulin is always stored in the fridge when not in use and it was from the 1st batch as they gave me 4 boxes of 5 pens at that time. Don’t need another script for 3 weeks

Reading back through what you are saying, are you in general going into the 20s at around 4pm?
Baring in mind you inject a mixed insulin in the morning, then another at teatime.. it sounds like you are not covered for lunch?

With my regime I have a basal/long acting insulin which keeps my background fasting levels stable.
Then I have a short acting insulin which gets injected for food. (I do need to adjust the dose reading any carbs consumed.)
If my BG levels go too high, I can also dose the short acting insulin to pull it in line. (Not as easy as I just made it sound, but the MDI regime is more flexible.)

Do you see an endocrinologist or diabetes specialist at the hospital?
 
I have nothing more than an absolutely useless DN, she rings me once every 6 weeks and just says put it up. And when I call the doctor to get it sorted, All I get is speak to the DN but it’s ok she’s ringing in 4 weeks so just wait she’s very busy. I can’t win

Was it the DN that prescribed the Humulin?

My concern would be if I was increasing dosage of insulin & it’s a possible bad batch with lost potency.
When you change the box. I could be in a serious situation with hypos?
It’s happened to me with Lantus. (A basal insulin.)

You really need an endo. Or failing that a DSN. (“Specialist” being the inserted acronym.)

Silly question, but have you been regularly rotating injection sites?
