This article:

http://www.isletmedical.com/pages/define_diabphys.htm

Is from a company seeking to create an artificial pancreas, but has some very good explanations and graphics of how glucose regulation works.

One bit of quite surprising information:

.....
In the healthy state the system is so responsive that under maximal stimulation over 4% of the glucose in blood can be removed per minute! This is why exercise can partially compensate for impaired insulin metabolism and is an important component of diabetes care.
.......

Wow, know I can see why advice to exercise is so well founded.

Thanks for that markd,
I am a great believer that exercise plays an important part in diabetes management. You do not have to run marathons and join gyms, (unless you want to) but keep active.

Catherine.

I agree wholeheartedly re exercise . I`m 62 but have increased my walking on a daily basis , I always walked every day prior to D because i have two dogs to exercise but since diagnosis, have increased and now walk about 3/4 miles per day . Along with low carbing , this has brought my BG down to really good levels .
