I am sure I too will find all that fluid difficult. There is a family joke that I am a reincarnated camel as I drink so little and the others all drink masses of tea. I HATE tea, always have.

One question
250g vegetables are cooked or uncooked. So if I prepare soup I can have 250grams of it in whole day or so I measure 250g of veggies and then make them as I want

I measure it on cooked weight, but I only measure it on 200 grams

I do this because I cook in bulk then divide it into freezer bags after its cooked, as its just easier being a shift worker

I make soup in big lots on the weekend, not per portion, and have been treating 200mL/ 1 cup as my daily allotment. But to be honest, I probably have one and a half times that much (and my soup has more than a touch of olive oil in it). But I'm still losing an average of 4-5 pounds a week. So that's an option (and I'll tell you, it's soooo easy to reheat soup instead of making it daily)

If you do soup like I do (it is also puréed) try chewing gum periodically throughout the day to give your jaw/teeth something to do. Actually good advice even if you do end up chewing your 250g of fiber vegetables.

@The little white hen how are you doing
You must be excited you are coming close to the end of it all isn't it.

I increased my exercise this week and I have felt so hungry. Looking forward to the end 12 days now (I think). I have been dreaming of smoked mackerel for days. Had another round of blood tests today. They included liver function, Hba1c, standard sugar test (whatever that is) and something else I can't remember. I see the dietician and specialist on Tuesday to discuss what comes next. Has long as it involves some real food I will be happy. I know that they have twenty weeks at a gym in the mix, which I am going to take up. I just have to pay a twenty pounds good will gesture fee and the trainer will set me a programme to help keep weight off. I am going to do what ever they say because I feel they have been on the ball so far.

Some advice? Exercise is easier to do if you set a concrete goal. Whether it is finishing a 5k race at a certain time, or some other goal, it'll make it something attainable that you can photograph as a memento versus just exercise for the sake of exercise. You might be more motivated than me, but without a diabetes diagnosis, I NEVER would have lost this weight, I just would have sat and thought about it. Similarly, I've set a goal to complete a mini"sprint" triatholon this summer as a way to ensure I get good exercise. It's a simple goal - not looking for a good time, just looking to complete it under my own power :) even knowing what exercise does to boost insulin sensitivity, I don't think that would motivate me enough to stick to long term exercise.

Keep up,the good work!

I agree with the goal idea, before I started the ND I lost three stone. I started by setting small goals like walking the dog every day or digging a patch of the allotment. I was very unfit and this was a start that I felt I could do. I have never been a gym person and my diabetic nurse was very good at helping me find exercise I liked to do. Once I reached my gaol of walking a certain distance with my lovely dog, I challenged myself to do it in a quicker time. Just to beat it by a few minutes felt good. Then last summer my friends and I did the Pretty Muddy Obstacle Course, a 5K for our friend who has breast cancer. That was great and very rewarding in lots of ways. It built stronger bonds in my friendship group, raised money for cancer research and made me train.

Hi everyone, I have just finished week 7 and I'm very happy to be on the last week of the ND. I had a better loss this week of 3 1/4lbs or 1.47kg and a slower loss of inches at 1 1/2" from my waist over the last three weeks. I think the increase in exercise helped. I am feeling good and looking forward to seeing my dietician and specialist tomorrow for next step and final blood test results of diet. If you want more details on my experience in week seven visit the blog at http://www.thelittlewhitehen.com/blog/facing-life/the-last-push/

I do not have diabetes
Uh . . . You're not the Dr. Taylor by chance, are you?

No I am not, I am a 23 year old man from Norway. I do not have diabetes, but I have several in my family with severe obesity, and diabetes. My aunt which I love dearly, has type 2 diabetes, and severe obesity. But here is the strange thing. My mother is 172 cm and weighs 138 kg, but DOES NOT HAVE DIABETES. My aunt is much slimmer but still has it. Also, my parents are divorced, and my father a eyesurgeon MD with a Phd, has a new woman now, and she got diabetes type 2. However, she is really skinny.

I am not saying everyone that has diabetes are obese, or that anyone who got is lazy. I just find it very interesting, especially come how everybody says obesity is the cause of diabetes.

Since I am very interested in weight loss, I went from 110 kg to 74 kg in two months in 2014 through intermittent fasting, I am 188cm tall , and diabetes, because of my relatives and loved ones, I came over Roy Taylor and Jason Fung.

And since is just happens that they are holding an hour long interview on this website:http://thediabetessummit.com/vjhyui/ which is only free for 24 hours, I thought it nice to spread the word.

BTW I have an awesome respect for anyone trying the newcastle diet, and I am very impressed by the threadstarter, and everyone else doing this.

Maybe I should start a thread with this?

Correction - the end of the beginning is almost here - you're now mentally and physically prepared for the hardest part: maintenance!

Your right when you say that, I am more than a little scared of the future. It could be said that's a good thing because it will keep me on my toes. I will let you know after my meeting with the dietician tomorrow what her suggestions are and open up the discussion to diet after the ND is over. I just hope my HBa1c is much improved and stays that way after the ND only time will tell.
