Hi thanks for message and encouragement on the Omnipod. I am in East Sussex so will need to check on funding. Did you have to do the tests every 2 hours for 2 weeks? Is that what they suggested to do.

Yep we did and then you are putting most accurate info in for it to do the calculations. Omnipod is available throughout the country as is on the NICE pump list.

Hello thanks for the tip. I will speak to the DSN soon about it. With the 2 hourly testing for 2 weeks, did you have to do that, was that the training required or was that you decided to do it for that length of time. If you have any problems or queries, do you ring Ypsomed then and do they give you the back up or the DSN.
I just got approved for funding from my PCT for a Omnipod. It took 6 months of fighting with my PCT. Loads of letters from myself and my diabetes specialist. I was refused funding initially but after getting my MP involved, the PCT agreed to an appeal. I then wrote a long letter as to why a patch pump was more suitable. My diabetes team also wrote another argument. I was pleased to hear that my funding was approved and now I am waiting for the the pump to be delivered.
My diabetes specialist team at Chelsea and Westminster hospital advised that the costing for a patch pump is only £100 more than a tubed pump!!!! I really cant understand why all the fuss if its only £100 higher in price. Im sure most of us would gladly pay the £100 if it means we could have the Omnipod over the standard pumps. You have so much more flexibility with the omnipod as there is no tubing to catch on things, to kink.....
You can also wear the omnipod on more parts of the body even the calves and arms. With the tubed pumps, you are limited because you can only wear it on the abdomen or lower back and the pump is hard to hide so its always visible on your belt (if your a man).

Hi the two hourly testing was what was advised by both the rep and the hospital as that is how you get the best outcomes from any pump not just the omnipod, it may sound a pain but trust me its worth it and you get a good idea of your own body patterns etc. as for cost i think it eventually came out slightly cheaper than any tubed pump after the discounts the hospital got.

Sorry if you have problems with a pod or handset then you call ypsomed but f its your diabetes ie calculations or readings etc then its your DSN. No pump company will give medical advice only technical help.

I'm 18, I recently got put on the omnipod (which I quite literally had to beg for as they don't give it to people with poor control which I had) my Hba1c was 17
it is a 6 month trial and after 2 weeks my hba1c dropped to 8, we were so shocked at how well it works, is made my life 100X easier and sorted my sugars out. There was a time where I couldnt remember the last good reading I had, now I can't remember the last bad one!
