may be but what about at 6 hours? good luck and fingers crossed

An idle mind wants to know, Andrew: what are you to do if your next meal is due within that 6 hour period?
  • do you eat as normal and forgo further pizza testing?
  • or do you starve yourself in the name of pizza science?

There is the odd occasion when I do think I was misdiagnosed but I don't really like saying it out loud as it seems to irk a few people.

It's just that my diet and exercise levels were so bad a year ago that I can see how easily my hba1c was 7.2% which lead to a diagnosis.

So, a smidge up, or towards the upper end of your personal range?

The reason I ask is that, as you have shown, I can eat pasta/pizza without a spike, but I do experience a marginally elevated level for 1-2 days thereafter. It's a most odd phenomenomenomenon.

What's your weight and exercise like now, compared to then?

I've lost 3 stone in 12 months and go to the gym twice a week.

Now eat 30 - 60g carbs per day.

Used to eat sausage butties or 3 weetabix with tropicana juice.

Banana for a snack

Lunch was pasties or triple decker sandwich with crisps, fizzy drink and chocolate bar.

Evening meal varied but rice, potatoes and pasta were staples. Often with shop bought sauces. Plus puddings sometimes

Four cans of lager 4 times a week with crisps and snacks.


I had to clear out the kitchen, re-stock with good food and literally start all over again.

To be frank, I'm amazed my average hba1c was as low as 7.2%

It was a very sedentary lifestyle too sat on my backside for long hours and no exercise.
I did that for around 5 years.

I think the delayed rise you (I) get with pizza has as much to do with what goes on top, as to do with the base. Ham, pineapple and cheese is going to impact very differently from 5 types of meat and extra cheese. Deep pan or thin and crispy? Small, medium, large or sombrero?

It all makes a difference.

Mind you, the only type I will eat nowadays is home made low carb. It's ace.

Sounds similar, sedentary to start, a similar wake up, similar actions, and our results look similar. .
Weight loss, exercise, avoiding the junk.
Apart from the low carb, but I avoid processed foods and eat healthy.

The last ones I had were Dominos, large (10 slices) Ham and pineapple, Meateor, and Texas BBQ, normal crust, 3 between 5 of us.
The difference is in the past I would have finished all three after everyone else was full, now some actually made it into the bin!
I posted at the time.

5.1 last night.
4.9 this morning.
That was after eating Dominoes pizza with my daughter, (her birthday), a smallish slice of her chocolate cake, and some of the nachos with sour cream and salsa dip I made when she came in.
Possibly not to the approval of all on here I'm afraid, but I'm not arguing over the numbers.
Even stranger, 5.8 an hour after eating a cold slice of the 'meateor' pizza this morning.

I woke up really hungry this morning which is pretty unusual.
Just had my too boiled eggs. Will test post 2 hours and for rest of day.
