It happens because your BG goes low and your liver very kindly steps in to make up for it. I have read that eating later in the evening might help, a late night snack might help but more interestingly I've read that eating something in the morning "switches off" the liver dumping. You'd need to check this out because unfortunately I've forgotten where I read it.
That's interesting @graj0, might explain why my hubby's morning blood sugar was up when he had to do a 14hr fasting test recently even though his HbA1c was under pre-diabetic level.
