I've had terrible control most of my life, I am a 21 y/o male.
Diagnosed at the age of 6 and have had fairly terrible control all my life (hba1cs of 9-13)
Recently have been diagnosed with Retinopathy and have yet to have treatment, also Neuropathy in the form of foot pains and tingly fingers, and Proteins in my urine.
So needless to say this gave me a kick up the **** that was insanely overdue, However I am struggling to get my sugars under control.
My last a1c was 8.9, and this is after quitting smoking, drinking, partying, improving diet, starting to excercise and just generally trying a lot harder...
I am hoping to get this a lot lower my goal is <7 and I am keeping track of all foods, and testing around 8-10 times a day
It's really been getting me down because I feel as though even if i try my hardest and have perfect control from now onwards, I will still have all this damage which is irreversible
My question to you guys is;
a) can anyone relate to this?
b) after all this damage, will i ever be able to be considered healthy
Thanks in advance
