Hi, I know that you are supposed to test 2 hours after eating, but my bg always seems to take 3 hours to come down.Does anyone know if this is significant?

Depends what you eat Chris. Different foods peak at different times. High Glycemic index food like sweets will peak very quickly. Low ones like nuts will take much longer, which is why they're better. They give a steady release of energy without the nasty spike. Remember also, the two hour reading isn't necessarily supposed to be back down to our normal working level. The two hour thing gives us a consistent method of comparison, and is the time at which we should be heading back to a norm. That's why NICE say we should aim to be back below 8.5 at that stage, although most of us think that's too high and aim for a lower target. Some use 7.8, a level you'll see discussed on here a lot! An average non-diabetic will not normally exceed that level and it is suggested by some that over that level at 2 hours represents the start of the risk of complications. So don't expect to be right back down to base.

Thanks for the answer Grazer, there are so many variables with this disease it`s really hard to know what you are doing.
