Hello,
I am 31 and really struggling to get my head around diabetes. Mainly, why have I got it. I just wondered if anyone has has a similar experience to me?
I have had gestational diabetes twice, but this time it went away for 2 months and has now returned. I started on 2 metformin tablets a day, but it didn't seem to lower my blood sugars so I am now on insulin. My consultant still say's he doesn't know what type it is and why my blood sugars suddenly soared to 28 with ketones. I've had none of the mentioned symptoms that I should expect from such high readings about from high blood sugars. My blood sugars are now coming down gradually with increased insulin. All the tests I have had done have come back negative. I have not had a c-peptide test yet, but my nurse seems to think that there is little point as my blood sugar readings indicate that my pancreas is releasing no insulin at all. I am following all the dietary advice that the hospital have given me.
I understand why I need to take insulin, but I am finding it difficult to except as there doesn't seem to be any answers.
