Hi all Ive been lurking a few years. Here in Perth Aus, some 40 years behind, only type 1 2 and gestational is recognised. I KNOW I am not type 2 as diagnosed and do not respond to a whole range of diabetes drugs. All the symptoms including mouth ulcers and systemic canidasis are there even when i reduce blood sugars drastically through diet though thats increasingly hard. Cgm results are ignored by doctors. I love the idea of the new magnetic rings mentioned in an article today. My question is would anyone reccomend their specialist that they KNOW does international video links. I am born a pom and entitled to national health though I can afford to pay. I know my diabetes is out of control though hb1ac and other tests dont show it. High sugars resulting directly in atrial fibrillation and other symptoms. And I feel my brain deterioration is accelerating!

Hello @AussiePip .
seems you are having trouble getting health advice and attention. I think you are optimisic regarding a UK diabetes specialist who would undertake a video consultation. Certainly not on NHS, and unlikely privately, though I am prepared to be proved wrong.

I know that Perth is fairly isolated on the West coast, but surely there must be good consultants elsewhere in Australia who could advise?

Hello @AussiePip from another Aussie- I'm on the other side of the country to you though.

I don't think overseas doctors would be able to arrange tests in Australia so you are probably better off looking for other doctors in Australia.

I notice you mention a cgm- what sort of levels are you seeing? You also mention that a number of doctors have ignored the cgm. Have you tried using a glucose meter and providing them with those results? If you are seeing high levels and they are being ignored I find that very concerning.

Hi @AussiePip and welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately I think free NHS healthcare would only apply if you returned to live in the UK, though you're covered for emergency health care on UK visits because Australia and UK have a reciprocal agreement for emergency health care,

(Speaking as a non resident UK citizen myself).

I agree with @Pipp and @VashtiB that you should try to find some other doctors in Australia.

Have you tried contacting Diabetes Australia for advice? They certainly recognise that there are more types of diabetes than T1, T2 and GD
