Urinary problems!

hi,

I am seeking some advice about how diabetes affects the urinary system.

I am 20 years old (type 2) with a recent HBA1C of 39! I am healthy in all departments, however I am still troubled with urinating a lot and an uncomfortable feeling in my bladder, sometimes sore?? I find I am fixating on this and it makes me paranoid! It is not all of the time or overnight (at all), however I wonder if it is related to diabetes in any way at all? And if it's certain types of food that irritate?

My elevated sugar was discovered after having a UTI in April (awful things!) and I have not had any since thank-goodness, but I am still feeling that having a wee is not the same as it used to be! I have been to the Drs, all tests negative, I wonder if anyone has any advice. It may be a coincidence but if there is anyone out there who could share some advice it would be appreciated ☺️

I've only had my urine culture checked when going in to see the Dr (with the stick) and it was all clear.

Ah, isn't cystitis burning / urgency? I have neither of those, I'd say I urinate every 2-3 hours however sometimes it can be every hour. I drink about 2L of water most days but I would say that was something I've always done.

I may have to request to see a specialist if it continues.

Thanks for the reply!

May not be this but the constant weeding before diagnosis left me with an over active bladder - its treatable either by "retraining" your bladder or by a course of medication if you need it. See your GP they can help if it is this or indeed help if it's something else

Thank-you!

I think it may be the case - the UTI has just left me paranoid!

I will book an appointment with my GP and get some advice :)

Hi there Emily. I recently discovered that T2 diabetic people can suffer Female UVD (Urinary Voiding Dysfunction). Do you have trouble emptying out fully or constantly having to bear down?

Hi,

I sometimes feel that I haven't emptied my bladder properly (not all of the time) and have to go back to the toilet soon after and go again. I just feel very aware of needing to go and I think half of the time it's in my head!

Can this condition arise out of no where ? My diabetes is very well controlled so I'm not sure if it's related.

THankyou!

There are other causes of FUVD. I think mine is caused by sciatica but strangely since I have been low carbing it has settled down a lot so who knows. All you can do is ask your GP to investigate the possibilities. Your problem may be totally unconnected to diabetes given that your bg is controlled, keep at it, don't let things slide because answers are not forthcoming. Best of luck.
