We’ve been blown away by the ever-expanding Diabetes.co.uk community in 2016. It was our busiest year yet for the Diabetes Forum!
First we received our 100,000th forum message and then we celebrated reaching 200,000 forum members. The forum continues to help people improve their health outcomes and we thank you all for your contributions, however big or small.
As we near the end of the year, catch up with the 10 most popular posts of the year on the forum and social media.
“I just got back from my first appointment with an endocrinologist and, subsequent to my latest test results; he says that he considers me to be in "complete diabetic remission”!
We encouraged the diabetes community to get involved with Diabetes Awareness Month by asking them to send in their selfies and stories as part of #BlueNovember.
“The 8-week 800 calorie plan […] I think it is what I need just now - a bit of discipline to make me focused while I'm restricted with a sore knee. Has anyone else done it?”
Our graphic showing the different symptoms of low, high and normal blood sugar levels was shared over 6,000 times as the diabetes community revealed their respective symptoms.
“I have had type 1 for 44 years and I know that sometimes when I am hypo I can act silly or say inappropriate childish things but I have never been told I am an embarrassment.”
Our responses to “5 things you should never say to someone with diabetes” inspired the diabetes community to recount the bizarre questions they’ve been asked about their diabetes.
“I went with her to see her diabetic consultant recently and found out that while she is meant to have four injections a day, but she only has one every few days.”
As part of #BlueNovember, a man sent in a picture of himself in July following a pancreas and kidney transplant. He is now no longer on insulin injections and doesn’t require dialysis.
A Diabetes Forum user had real problems with his medication. Little did he know that stopping treatment made him feel as good as he had done in nine years.
