Hi .... I have been on this forum for a few weeks and would like to thank you all for your useful information and really appreciative if the support you have for each other... I was diagnosed in November last year and it hit me (as with others) hard.My diagnostic hba1c was 56 wt high trig and FBS of 7.9.. After intense research I launched myself into lchf diet as per dietdoctor instructions and on Thursday my hba1c was 51 and FBS of 69... hv tried IF but am worried my FBS remaining high.... I hv not seen my GP since diagnosis and am not on any meds.... or daily bs monitoring. My lab results are taken by work colleagues as I work in a health organisation.... please advise if am doing right. Not sure if I hv lost any weight but happy wt Hba1c results... thanks Nov

The best advice I would give you would be to get yourself a BS testing kit so that you can monitor your own levels. If you are diet controlled it is important for you to find out what foods affect your BS levels. Test before eating then 2 hours after and you will quickly be able to work out what is ok.

Oh, well done!

:D

Sounds like you are on the right track.

Do you know when you are next due for blood tests at the doctors?

I do recommend getting a blood glucose meter, if you can. Without one it is nearly impossible to fine tune your diet for your particular requirements.
Have you seen anyone suggesting meters? I use the SD codefree, mainly because it is the cheapest. :)

You're moving in the right direction, according to your latest bloods, so well done on paying attention to your diagnosis.

If you are following Diet Doctor, you will have access to appropriate dietary information, but for me, the other part of the equation. When I was trying to get my numbers into line, I didn't have the advantage of working in a health organisation, with frequent blood panels. I bought myself a blood tester, which allowed me to see how everything I was eating and drinking was affecting me, and could therefore make timely changes. That feedback was priceless.

There are lots of knowledgeable people on this site who will support you, but I would urge you to get your personal feedback system ( a blood meter and strips) so that you achieve control promptly.

Good luck with it all.

Hi Mongolia, Brunner AndBreathe
Thanks for your responses... I must admit I am worried about my FBS.. 0ne morning 4 weeks after my T2 diagnosis I fasted for 12 hours my bg was 8.1 ... and realised this must be DP but it really scared me! I went to the GP initially (after 10 years absence) as feeling unwell and BP was 141/101 mmhg . Since lchf my BP has stabilised to my usual 123/76 mmhg. .even when stressed! I think lchf is Def the way to go.... hv been on vegetarian diet for 3 years (and on/off before that) and the weight piled on til my BMI was 28.. I hv given up being vegetarian and embraced bacon pork beef etc... and smelling of flesh :arghh:

Hi... can someone please advise? My Lifescan one touch verio glucose meter (is this an accurate machine as is a present? ) arrived and my bs was 7.2 mmol..... so am feeling really down cos been following LCHF sInce diagnosis. .. and seems to no avail!

Another problem is that I am frightened of pricking myself. ... the thought of having to do that is jz too much !!:eek::arghh:

Don't worry, Was this bs Fasting bs? If it is not non diabetics too can get this level of bs even some time after food. You should not worry about one reading. You have do series of readings to come to any decisions. Worrying increase the cortisol levels and that increases the blood sugar.
Some of the members here uses a gadget which measure continuos bs monitor which measure blood suger of interstitial fluid. Which equates to that of blood, Not available in the NHS . It is expensive.Depending on your fear of needles and your finances it could be worth considering this. I f I were you I would try and get another HBA1C in about a months time .
What is your daily Carb. intake. You can try to reduce it if possible.

Hi thanx for response.... I have been having Jz black coffee all day so when the glucometer arrived I was tested.... so, really ... this would b FBS right and.. is HIGH!

My carb intake is low.... Eg when I got home I had half cauliflower fried in butter and creme fraiche wt some roast pork fillet and finished wt double creamed coffee

When did you test? Had you been eating? If so, what? And how long after eating did you test?

Blood glucose rises and falls all day, due to stress, food, drink, liver dumps and various other factors

Edited to add: just seen your comment about the black coffee. If we go too long without food, our liver steps in and releases glucose to prevent it dropping too low. It is called a liver dump.

You shouldn't ever draw conclusions from a single reading. You need to test at consistent times, over several days, recording food and bg readings, before you start deciding that the LC way of eating is good or bad for your big.

Hi November1115. Did you receive an information sheet on Diabetes that all newly diagnosed received? Let me know and I can get you one sent on this site.:)

Hi Liam 1955.. I did read Daisy s introductory MSG on the forums.... but am worried... thought I understood a little about diabetes but probably not!

Hi November1115. What seems to be the problem? If I can help you? I will.:)

Thanx Brunneria. .. think u are right... being diagnosed is like a noose round my neck...

HI Liam... am worried. .. Jz need reassurance am doing the right diet! Hv close relatives wt both diabetes and ca bowel!

Hi November1115. The 1st thing is - stop worrying! Stress/Worry will send your b.s. up. What was your b.s. at 4pm? And what have you eaten today except black coffee?

Hi I got home at 1900 hrs and had half a cauliflower in butter and creme fraiche wt roast pork filletts and finished wt double creamed coffee...

Couldn't bring myself to bleed myself to test! :(

Hi. At least you have eaten something. When you don't eat for a long period our liver will release glucose (called 'liver dump') - I sometimes get these through the night and my morning bs is high. You want to test before you eat, keep a food diary - write down what you eat and then 2 hours later check your blood and if it is high ? record this result. I don't follow any set diet, but a lot of Diabetics do nowadays - I'm a Vegetarian, but not 100% anymore - as I occasionally eat eggs, bacon (frazzled) and sausages (almost burnt) and loads of Cheese & butter. What was your last HBA1C? And are you on medication for Diabetes? If so, what?:)
