Hi all looking for some help please
Been on the Blood sugar diet for 3 months managed to lose 70 pounds with mainly the fasting part of it and some reasonable exercise anyway at the start my meter reading was 23.7 and I weighed 21stone 11 pounds - yesterday at wws it was 16 stone 11

anyway I was initially on 4 metformin a day at 2000mgs total and 2 Glixozade at 80mgs each total 6 per day anyway i reduced my medication to one of each a day as my levels were fairly steady at between 4 & 7 morning and night and around 8 2 hours after food , i decided last Monday to try no medication at all , and the only real change 5 days in has been my readings at between 6and 7 not so many 5's ?? my relationship with my Doc has been non existent for almost the whole 10 years i have been type 2 so maybe stupidly i never informed him about the weight loss or more importantly the change in medication ?

Has anyone on here done this and do you have any advice on it , any help is appreciated

It is not generally recommended to change medication without the agreement of your HCP and no-one on this site is qualified to do that. Get his her/agreement then perhaps you'll both know what is going on. The worst thing you can do is accept the pills, flush them and keep it a secret. This smacks of strange behaviour and leads your HCP to think he/she is doing good when they are doing nothing. This bodes ill for the rest of us since the stats are false.

I'd take some more Metformin, 5s over 6s & 7s sound good to me. It works by affecting your liver's production of glucose, so will lower your fasting and night time levels - and reduce the background level of blood glucose, allowing you to eat a few more carbs without it getting too high. It also seems to keep weight down and reduce your lipids. Giving up a complex arrangement of meds is probably a good idea, but Metformin is a good drug, if you don't suffer from side-effects.

I'd battle it out with your doctor too, or find a new one, diabetes is a complicated disease and you need some monitoring you can't do yourself.

I was on metformin and statin .. stopped both with the supervision of my heart nurse

When i halved my meds in the summer i found i was pushing against an open door with my DN

Under the supervision of my nurse I dropped my evening Gliclazide of 40 mg a couple of days ago as I had two consecutive fasting hypos.

Thanks for reply , so is the worry on stopping meds , sugar going to low rather than to high depending on carb intake ?

There are a lot of factors that van determine meter readings, not just carbohydrate intake. My fasting levels have been good for the last year but in the last two weeks even better as are my post breakfast readings. I only started testing more often about two months ago. I attribute the better readings to coming off Propranolol which is know to cause hyperglycaemia and perhaps eating a little bit more salads.

Hi I just find it a bit strange despite the weight loss and the fasting , that without the meds my levels have virtually stayed the same - I've been type 2 for 10 years

I don't think stopping meds without talking to you doctor first is ever a good idea

Are you low carbing? What's you carb intake a day?
Great Stats and inspirational to me , I've been on the 8 week blood sugar diet next to no carbs listening and reading what Michael Moseley has to say and write and apart from my ailing health ( self inflicted ) it has really helped , as you say you finally getting to see a specialist is what I really need and soon as I feel I would just depress my doctor as much as he depresses me hence why I stopped going about a year ago - thanks reply much appreciated

Are you on the one using the powdered meal replacements? You might try switching to low carb high fat real food. Has your HbA1c improved?

Hi , no I just eating very low calorie 800 each day and 2 days fasting with 500 calories , my last HBA1C was 66 or 8 whatever that really means ? that was while I was 21 stone about 3 months ago so I'm hoping to go for a check privately soon and hoping for big improvement

I have halved my meds without speaking to doctor first as I changed diet and kept having hypos. I did suggest to DN that I was thinking of trying low carbs but she wasn't really interested. Group practice and seem to see a different doc every time I go but they've all only put my meds up without giving advice. DN has since said to carry on with what I'm doing when had blood tests & then told her only taking half meds. Ideally if you have doc who is interested, discuss with them but I feel mine aren't. Too busy to care! Got more help from here.
