Looking for help to understand what's going on

I am so frustrated it is unbelievable! :( like this morning woke to a 6.3 2 hours post was 5.7 and pre lunch was 7.5 I'd at least like to stay in range you know what I mean but I don't have a clue! I just don't get why I always did after breakfast then can still end up out of range :( I don't look the same as I do in that pic as I've had one side of my head shaved! Lol, will have to update pic as this is the only one I've used haha, haven't been to any darts related things for a while actually x

Those bg levels are not disastrous by any stretch of the imagination, OK ideally you like to be lower before lunch but a correction dose included in your bolus dose will soon sort that out.

Don't know what your back-up support is like but you could have a word with your DSN and see what they have to say.

I cant correct unless I go above 9 which is even more frustrating :( but just had to do it with dinner as was 9.6 :( I generally go through a phase of higher readings for a day or two after a hypo :( x

What's people's thoughts on trying 1 slice with butter and the other dry so there s less fat to see if that works? X

Hi @kaylz91 . Can I say something that I hope you will understand, you may not agree with it, and it's only my opinion.
( which probably isn't worth that much:):) ).
Your numbers as @noblehead posted are not that bad. You seem to be aiming for a very small target, which in itself is great, but when you miss the target you get stressed/ annoyed. Diabetes thrives on negativity, depression and sresss.
Perhaps if you gave yourself a slightly bigger target to aim for then your success rate would be greater = less annoyance, less stress and a happier you. Happiness/ positivity is one of the best weapons to control diabetes.
Good luck whatever and those numbers you've posted are good.

This is what was set by my DSN and yes I do get rather stressed when I am not in range, it's also that I am trying to keep my complication chances at bay as a month after I was diagnosed with type 1 I started treatment for DMO as well :( x

hey there @kaylz91
the suggestion about setting your targets a bit looser is a fab one.

I am pumping and my BG targets for BG's are set at 3.9 -9.5 for being in range
I don't like being above 9.0 ever but by keeping my targets at that level it allows for the odd BG above MY comfort zone without actually being out of range.
it adds to my positive feeling knowing I hit "range " the vast majority of the time.

I'm on Tresiba and I take it about 10pm, although from what the rower said adding more cocoa and peanut spread would make things worse? Yes it seems I am most sensitive in the morning too! :( most people I've spoken to say they are more resistant in the morning x
Mainly type2s are resistant on a morning. Although the type1s with resistance are normally given metformin tablets to take.
I think its the honeymoon period confusing things.
Take things one injection at a time until your body settles down. Use half unit pen to its full advantage?
Ive heard this is the hardest period for type1s but it does get better. I understand.

Fat acts as a delay mechanism. Fat slows down digestion.
Fatty protein (peanut butter) gives a slower glucose lower level release than carbs, even fatty carbs. Protein can still raise bgs.
Maybe try 2 slices of peanut buttered toast for a few mornings til you see how they react to you?

Who is deciding whether you correct?

Do you use a bolus calculator? That might be helpful in whether to round up for corrections.

What exactly is your target range? 5.7 is fine, perfect. 7.5 is fine, a touch high maybe but nothing that can't be dealt with with a decent pre bolus for lunch.

You know a target is just that, a target. No one is in their target 100% of the time.

I don't want to slow it down really I want to spike 2 hours post and come down by next pre meal if I hypo on the fat with one chances are I'd make it worse with 2 I don't want to be low every morning I want to be normal :( x

I don't correct unless above 9 as a half unit can lower me by 3mmol or a tad more, I have an Aviva expert meter so it takes into account bg, carbs etc I just worry a lot more with already having trouble with my eyes I'm only 25 and it's all been such a hard hit to me I do nothing in the way of having fun anymore and stick to strict foods as I worry what things will do to me I'm so down about everything and have nobody to talk to as they just brush me off if of i bring anything up :'( x

@kaylz91
we all get it !!!!!!:) it is hard sometimes -- I started with trouble with my eyes around age 28, but 30 years later I can still see and drive so try to be positive !!!!!!!!!

have you asked about a pump ??

Try a fat free breakfast? If carb ensure covered by enough insulin?

I'm sure this is just a difficult time in your diabetes. I'm confident things will improve.
Because you're willing to try tweaks to do just that. We are here for you.
All of us!

I always eat whole meal bread which I make myself. However, if that is all I am eating I must bolus about 30 mins after eating or I always hypo an hour afterwards. It takes far too long for the sugars to hit my system. As your sugar levels are in range before you eat there will be less room for manoeuvre. Mine are generally higher than that but I still bolus with any correction needed much later when eating just slow release carbs. At other times I bolus ahead. It's mix and match depending on food to be consumed. Three years in to this adventure and every so often my pancreas likes to tell me it's still around. After 3 months of high levels I struggled to get everything balanced. Had just achieved it when last Sunday I had my first hypo in weeks. In all I had 5 that day and 3 the next. Having to radically reduce insulin again now. For how long is anybody's guess. Ahh the joys of diabetes!
Good luck! As others have said don't beat yourself up. You are doing very well with those levels.

I'm still unsure of what is often classed as slow and fast and when you Google it it can give mixed information even on the same page! Lol, just want to give up with food to be honest I've not been able to enjoy myself at all since I was diagnosed and it's so frustrating it's getting me down but also affecting the lives of those around me :( thanks for the kind words :) x
