Diabetics R Us

Good Morning Duckies. Hope you slept well, I woke up at silly o'clock as expected.

Good news for me yesterday, my eldest (always my favourite ;)) has promised a trip to Fountains Abbey next time! While I have a love of mediaevil history the churchs/abbeys/minsters were only of interest to me in a political fashion and architecturally, I find that castles hold my interest far more but it is the people of the era I find fascinating especially as we really havn't changed at all since then.

The vaulted rooves of these ruins are awe inspiring.

Fountains Abbey is awaome, just for the ruins and the gardens around it. Been there a few times, the best was one year when they opened late, this was Autum. It was great, dark , gregorian chats going on plus rumble of thunder and an owl hooting.

Must do that again sometime.

Enjoy the trip.

What a wonderful day, and I agree you should write it all down so you can keep reminding yourself of how lovely it was.
I am like you, I love castles where I can sink myself into times gone by. I touch the walls and wonder who touched them many hundreds of years before, and how on earth they were built by hand, without machinery, and how those stones arrived there in the first place.

Exactly. When my elest was stationed in Cyprus he too k me to a Roman ruin. At one point I was stood with my hand against a pillar and wondered if ever a centurion did the same thing. I was so caught up in my thoughts, imagining a bustling market etc that when my lad broke through shouting 'Mum, move!' I shouted bac that he was a complete Philistine and tried to tell him why I was stood still. He explained to me that that red fire ants were crawling up my ankles and that was why he was shouting at me to move! Dangerous stuff this history!

Since reading the history of my small town and learning that all the land around here was owned initially by Fountains I have wanted to visit, it is said to be one of the finest examples of mediaevil religeous architecture of the period. I can't wait.

Wish me luck tomorrow! I have my appointment with my nurse and I'm always nervous for a couple of days beforehand, even though I know my hba1c will be fine.
This time I'm going to try to get less appointments with her. I like her, but I don't think this stress 4 times a year is necessary. Blood works is once a year (this time), as is feet-tickling.
The other three appointments mainly consist about asking how I'm doing, asking how my diabetes is doing, me showing her some numbers on meter or Libre-app, giving her a box of eggs from my chickens, and taking my weight and bp. Those appointments still make me nervous, though, not unlike exam-stress.
To my thinking, those 3 appointments could easily be replaced by a phone call (preferably her calling me at some random time, so no way to worry about it :) ) , and if she wants to know my weight and bp I'm happy to buy scales and a bp machine so I can tell her. Of course I'll happily pledge an oath to call her if things don't go right in between, as I would want to see her in that case. I only have a problem with those appointments as long as all is well.
So that's what I'm going to ask her. Probably won't happen, but I'll be happy to settle with two appointments every year :)

You can only ask and when you tell of the unneeded stress she should understand. Good luck, fingers crossed for you.

Good luck @Antje77 Deep breaths.

I have bloods taken twice a year, but only see my nurse once a year (unless my bloods are dire, which they haven't been so far). The health care assistant weighs me and takes BP etc when I have my interim bloods done, but she isn't a proper nurse, and she is lovely. As is my nurse.

Oh (insert not-allowed word of choice), it’s 11:30 around here and I'm about to go to sleep and only now thought to think (get nervous) about the other blood tests. Appointment with nurse is tomorrow morning. Anyone can give me a short table of numbers to be looking for with the usual annual blood and urine tests for lipids and kidneys? Like so short I can take it in with my first coffee and make a screenshot of to refer to while having my appointment ?
Yes, I know, I should either not worry or else have been googling earlier, but hey stuff happens...

@Antje77 , think ship on calm water... You'll be fine. :)
Thanks! Tomorrow morning it will be over, at least for four months and hopefully longer and I will be back to a gentle worrying about the guinea-pigs and my oldest dog :) Dog is doing great, guinea-pigs as well, except for one geriatric piggie who amazes me every morning by still being alive since the last two months, so all will be well as of tomorrow afternoon!

G'morning Duckies, another great day on the cards, stay cool and stay well.
