Type of diabetes

hi ,new here ,I see lots of information and advice ,I was wondering if there are from people speaking from experience or are any from medical professionals ?

hi, welcome :)

we are mostly just ordinary people giving advice from our own personal experiences, our advice will differ so you may have to choose which stuff you listen to, but all given with the best intentions, best of luck :)

tnx , so I have to figure out which is best for myself ? ok

yes always, but so much useful helpful info here, we all deal with our diabetes in a different way, you get to learn from our mistakes and successes :) if you want to

how do I know which type of diet I should be on ? I never eat rice ,white bread ,pasta anyway , I eat plenty of vegetables ,meat, fish, chicken, etc ,all organic a little brown bread sometimes ,I don't eat confectionary ,sweets or takeaways how can I improve on that ?

it is harder for folks that have a good diet already :( are you heavy? weight loss helps our blood glucose levels, do you have access to a meter to self test? exercise is also a very useful tool to lower bg if you are able

I could do with loosing a few kilos I guess ,I have a meter ,my levels are somewhat eractic and higher than recommended , I am on metformin therapy

I don't have a particular exercise regime I thought a persons daily life would provide sufficent exercise alone

it takes a while to settle, are you testing before food and 2 hours post food? the trick is to discover which foods/meals spike you, we find reductions in carbohydrates help but you dont sound like you eat many now so i guess test and see whats putting it up, what number are you getting?

between 8 and 10 before breakfast ,10 to 14 two hours after dinner

seems quite high with your diet unless as said there are some hidden nasties in there you thought were healthy, do you eat alot of fruit?

ideally you want to reduce you before number and then eat food that gives you no more than a 2.0 rise 2 hours after

I would eat a lot of fruit ,maybe 3 apples and 2 oranges a day , I thought they were healthy ?

the metformin will help but the diet is the most important

so how do I reduce my *before number ,
I don't walk miles every day i am kept active though doing diy etc

ahhh theres maybe the problem, fruit is high in vitamins etc but very high in sugar, berries are best for diabetics, i loved fruit but dont eat anything but berries now, maybe worth cutting the fruit and seeing what happens to your numbers
