BG testing - a decision made

A persons knowledge does help, with individual decision making .....and people do change their minds with regards to their health care choices ....
So it is ok to share personal choices ......I support everyone , whatever decision is made ......

Thank you to the OP for sharing .....

...I can't say I disagree with you eastcoastphil, we all do what we feel is best for us after all...

...I've learnt so much from being on here, fantastic posters, fantastic information...bbbut I think I've become a bit obsessed with testing since I joined ~ hell I should have shares in the company who make my strips...we could test forever and get varying results even if we ate the same meal day in day out, I'm sure it depends on other factors apart from food..mood, infections, exercise, individual body temperature etc. etc. I could go on [and frequently do as friends tell me lol]...

...However I DO think testing is warranted and will carry on two or three times a day, or when I try eating something new, just won't be quite so obsessive about it as I have been lately..

..so Phil, if you are happier not testing at the moment, and it gives you peace of mind, then don't worry what others think...good luck :)

Thanks for all the replies and different comments folks. We are all different but with the same problem so I guess there will be many ways to deal with it.

in fact, why else would anyone post other than to provoke opinions
.
I don't think he wants opinions about whether he tests or not he is just telling us what he is doing to personally manage his diabetes just like others tell us what they do. I think we should just be saying to him that we hope he does well

Good luck Phil and I hope you continue to do well as you say we all have our own way of dealing with it

Andy - be assured that in that case I will keep hanging around - and wishing you good luck all the way through your 'experiment' ... ;)

um, yes......so what's best then? Do I tell you what you want to hear and wish you well? It's your life after all and having just spent over a week pigging out on carbs myself I would be a bit hypocritical to tell you this is wrong. Or do I tell you that I think that may be the wrong decision for you, so for the sake of your health you need to be careful with this plan and maybe rethink it? Is there a difference between well wishing/ well meaning/ good advice?

Andy.....I've changed my mind, I really did love eating all those burgers last week so I think I'll join you...is that OK? Can we wish each other well now?

I'm glad I decided to test or else I'd never have known that I couldn't eat low GL muesli or a whole load of supposedly diabetic friendly foods.

Thanks to people's help in here and testing, I've got my carbs right down and a nice flat BG level.

Had I carried on, god knows what my next test would be and I'd be scolded by the docs for not putting the effort in, when in fact I'd been nothing but angelic.

I now only test new foods an hour and two hours afterwards so I have an everyday menu and an occasional treat menu to keep it all in check.

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

After plucking up the courage to start testing after being told to just get on with it!! I requested a meter, no chance. Not allowed one, spoken to two gp's, a partner and all to no avail. Feel quite disheartened actually. Boo hoo. :-(

Nothing unusual in that. If you want a meter then I'm afraid you will have to do what the rest of us type 2's do and buy your own and self-fund the test strips. Very sad, extremely bad of the NHS, but true.

I will bluetit, I've sent off for a codefree one. Very shortsighted of the NHS I feel. It's like telling me to get to my destination but not giving me the map. What would we do without this forum, it's just brilliant.
