Okay so in this group on facebook someone posted about what harm injecting a non-diabetic would do and people making jokes about it! Obviously it would cause harm to that person but just thought I would come on here and have a rant too ha!

Not something people should be joking about, more reasons for not wanting to join Facebook.

I couldn't actually believe someone even suggested it the post was "The may be controversial, I don't know? But has anyone ever given a non diabetic insulin to make them hypo so they know what it feels like? Like one is there any issues with doing that and 2 would it actually make them hypo but obviously with no long term damaging effects?"

It's just a silly group on facebook for type 1's but I think a load of non-diabetics have gotten onto the group!

My specialist has injected himself with insulin so that he would hypo.
I suppose that was in the name if science though

Could use other words than 'silly' to describe their antics.

Me too haha! And oh my really indiana?? What happened? I was watching holby the other week and some guy had been taken insulin too even though he wasnt diabetic because he thought it would give him energy...he nearly died i think!x

A non-diabetic will be producing all the insulin they need, so anything injected will be excess to requirements. Therefore, depending on the amount injected, it could induce anything from just feeling a bit odd to death. The antidote would, of course, be sugar, but it would have to be administered promptly. Unlike for a diabetic, there would be no risk of the antidote making sugar levels going too high.
All in all, a very stupid thing to play around with.

I think some body builders inject to speed up their metabolism and increase growth hormones. Stupid but some people just are.

Didn't some nurse get 'done' for murder by injecting patients with insulin.!!!

Not a member either! So many people have used it to mess up people's private and professional life. Have known managers at work check up on people through it. My hubbie has seen similar things in his job!

My wife is a manager & has checked up on seemingly responsible potential employees in the past using this method.. Normal life stuff fair enough.. But she's seen shocking stuff that has put her off employing some these individuals on FB... All you need is a match on an email address...?
