A HUGE 6.7!

Chinese IS EVIL.

I'm not shocked though. Shouldn't have had it and ice cream.

Angelic from now on....

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

5.6. More weirdness yesterday, late afternoon I was 6.2, we walked to the pub, had large glass of Merlot, walked home, tested before dinner, 5.0! Liver obviously distracted by alcohol, then shared a bottle of Languedoc with dinner, was still drinking it at +2 which was 5.8. (I'm not going back to drinking too much don't worry, this was just a weekend thing).

I'm still testing even though I agree it is demoralising, but I keep records of my averages each month, so if I don't test as normal my averages will be incorrect. I'm another nerd about it.
I've been very nerdy about it too. Unfortunately I think my obsession (natural I think) with it contributed to my anxiety and panic attacks. Something had to give so I'm giving myself a month off. I've kept my food and exercise the same via myfitnesspal. Except I've missed one or two days excercise because I've had a cold and stubbed toe. First cold in three years and I get it in the middle of a heat wave!! One more week to go before I begin testing again.

5.4 on going to bed (lowest since hot weather)
5.8 on getting up.

VERY weird evening meal at 7-30 Slice of crusty garlic bread with sauté mushrooms and mayo, fillet steak with more mushrooms, tomatoes and 6 big chips. 2 glasses of red wine. A whopping 6.2 before (average under 5.4) and then a delightful 6.1 at 2 hours!!!!!!!!! Couldn't believe it so tested twice. Same reading. Slobbed in front of the TV. Bedtime at +4 hours was 5.4. How weird was that? I know I must have peaked at 1 hour but it came back down to base at 2 hours. Never had that before.

5.6. All my fasting results for the last week have been 5.5 or 5.6. Lowest all week was 4.6 highest 6.5. No metformin since 23rd

I am tempted to hammer so really high carbs and sugar just to see what my readings are???

In my opinion, and plenty other valid ones exist; it's way, way too early to hit the carbs. Give your body some time to recover from the assault it has had from the high readings. Have you any poundage to drop?

Yes. Last week I was 231 pound or 16st 7llb. I weighed in on Friday after 5 days low carb and was 15st 9llb. Ideally I would like to be 13st 7llb.

I am an old hand at Atkins having done it several times. Once dropped to 11st 2llb

I am going to ask my doc for a glucose resistance test as well as only had one 2 years ago pre my diagnosis of t2 two weeks ago

I agree, why do it at all? Spend longer weaning yourself off them and you probably won't feel the need to try it.

What the body likes least (kidneys especially) is wild fluctuations in blood sugar - try and smooth things out as much as possible.

To be fair sanguine; I have enjoyed being able to add a few additional carbs to my diet in more recent times. I don't eat "more" carbs every day, but it does help a bit when socialising and so on. For instance, the fact I can eat rice (and to be fair it has never been one of my disaster foods) meant a meal out this week, in a Greek restaurant opened up virtually the whole menu to me. It's good to have options.

I'm off out shortly for breakfast an F1 (it's 07:30 here), and our hostess always does a lovely breakfast, but not necessarily too carb conscious. In my modified state, I rarely have to sideline anything too drastic - even if I don't always finish everything. I do usually avoid the rosti though, but that's more because she hasn't quite got that to my liking.

@gaz tred - I would advocate keeping the faith for now, and ideally dropping some further weight. That, along with diet, is what will make the difference to your insulin resistance. I don't know if you have read Prof Taylor's work, but it's worth the time. No need, necessarily to do the Newcastle. Diet, as he himself stresses it's the weight loss that's important, rather than the methodology.

Thanks. Yes I am aware of the Newcastle diet, if fact that's one of the discussion points I have with the doc in a couple of week along with the fact that I stopped taking the metformin after just a week and refuse to be taking drugs the rest of my life.
When I got diagnosed she said if I had presented the same results 6
Months ago she would have said to me to diet and exercise only but due to new NICE guidelines she had to prescribe the metformin.

I gave 2 fasting blood tests both of which were border line. I don't know how important to the results this is but both my fasting tests were early on a Monday morning. During the prior weekends I had probably 15 pints of Stella, half bottle of brandy, two take always, biscuits, crisps and bags of sweets. That's pretty much been my weekends for the last year or so. Not great I know but just a routine I slipped into. I have over several years binged to excess then dieted to excess to get rid of the weight.

Stella is liquid sugar! It definitely would impact BG levels for fasting test x
