Lchf help. Gaining weight!!

I found the third week of low carbing when I weighed myself two days early, i appeared to have gained over 2lbs. I reweighed the next day and I had lost 3lbs so I think that once the initial water loss has settled, there are fluctuations in what the scales show for all sorts of reasons. The most important thing is to drink plenty, eat enough fibre to keep regular and to weigh the highest calorie elements of diet out routinely You shouldn't have to go as low as 1000 cals a day yet- if you do, where will you go when you get to the last half stone. Also reducing your carbs when you say your BS are good seems counter intuitive to me.- now it;s things liek exercise , fluids and keeping tabs on calories that are needed more.

This is all great advice. Sadly I can't exercise due to multiple scerosis so I'm quite sedentary...I will definately keep weighing my fats too. Its a balancing act juggling all this imformation..but yes my bg readings are much better and at the end of the day that's what I wanted to see..besides I feel so much better without the carbs I used to eat

To be honest I've been a bit of guesser on the fats. Esp butter and cream...olive oil ect. Ok back to measuring and mfp

and there I think lies your answer and it seems to be a common error with the diet- just because fats are good for us, doesn't mean we can really eat them by the bucket load and still lose weight- butter and cream and oil are so high calories that it matters to be precise- it's not like having an extra lettuce leaf! I use one of those olive oil sprays( the Berio one not the low cal one) to cook with and stay away from cream. Cheese I try to eat in measured portions- had a blow out on some last night and know that the lump I had was probably about 400 cals- it wasn't that big!

Butter is a beggar to keep weighing. What I do is measure a specific amount from the packet in the fridge and put it in a butter dish. When it's gone, I know exactly how much I have had and over what period of time. Cream I don't touch. Yogurt is easy to count. Cheese is easy to count. Oil is difficult so a spray is best. Eggs are also full of fat and calories, so count those. Don't rely on MFP for the right calories in meats and fish. You need to research.

These are excellant tips esp the butterdish one. Oh I've been adding knobs of butter to veggies ect. Cream to my jelly and completely forgot those entries Duh!!!! What would I do without you all.... been having a bit of a fat fest now I think about it. Thinking oh they don't have carbs. But they do have calories!

Do you know if you have a decent vitamin D level? Lack of vitamin D can play havoc with the most unexpected things and is very common in autoimmune conditions.

Your thyroid OK? As weight gain and constipation are common when thyroid is low.

Thank you. My vit d is a bit low. Trying with an over counter vit d supp. As its borderline for prescription. But it is an option. I have just a small section of my thyroid after cancer 15 years ago but its just managing to keep me ok.

Have you tried chair based exercise, or exercise in water? That is how I fit exercise into my daily routine. I am disabled by a spinal injury, and not able to walk far, but I can move with the rest and better than many in the swimming pool.

I got mixed up with the high fat concept too. Trouble is the high fat foods taste better than carbs, and don't make me feel ill like carbs do. If you can get the measures right you will feel so much better.

Yes I swim 4 days a week and love it. Not terribly energetic but it keeps me sane.

Are you able to increase the intensity or number of sessions? I manage aqua fit classes as well as the swimming.

I like to think it keeps me sane, though others would disagree, but that feeling of being weightless in the water and being able to move more freely than on land is rather wonderful.

It tires me a lot ad I still have to get dressed and get myself home after. I've found just the right balance. Any more would make my muscles spasm so have to be careful. It is good that feeling of movement in water though. I know exactlt what you mean

I know what you mean too. All that exercise does wear me out, so not able to do much else, but at least it keeps my blood glucose levels stable so it is worth it.

Hope you can get the eating plan right soon.

Picking out some of the points above:

Don't change your routine on one bad result.

Change only one thing at a time and give it time to bed in before you draw any conclusions.

Remember that your BG control is your main goal and that this is doing very well.

Remember there will always be ups and downs.

Take your time.

:-)

Why couldn't I say that so succinctly?? I do go on.....

Would you like to be my personal preciser, @Spiker?

Stop counting cals and keep control of your carbs. I'm eating a very low carb version of LCHF due to weight stall (and a couple of kilos gain), never counting my cals but check my energy percentage with a tool and the cals comes for free, I'm usually eating 1600-1700 cals per day and loosing app 1 lbs per week. If you eat to little you body will go into starvation mood and keep hold on whatever you feed it. Instead of going lower than your 1200 cals, try to cut your carbs to less than 20 g per day and up your fat to feel satiety. Keep the proteins to the most at 0,5 g per ideal/target weight in lbs.

??
How do you know you're eating that many cals, if you aren't counting them?
