Good morning everyone I would like some advice regarding my feet please, most days they burn, then tingle but the one that hurts the most is when I walk it feels like I am walking on my bones now the things I have done are buying proper fitting shoes, massage my feet and I wear slippers around the house I have been thinking of asking Santa for a foot massager to see if this would help or would It be a waste of time?
I have had all bloods done B12 ect currently taking 5mg of folic acid as I have serum folate deficiency back in July saw a neurologist who straight away said it was the onset of diabetes he had seen this before he gave me venlafaxine which I am taking 150mg.
Not sure what else I can do?

My suggestion is you need to first get those BSs under control ... once they are, the pain should subside but gentle exercise won't hurt at all.

It's a common complaint for many starting out and I know you have losing weight as one of your first tasks plus getting that diet correct. You are certainly starting out right with the correct footwear and massaging.

Keep at it, for many (including me) it does die down quite a bit once you have addressed the other matters

Mike :)

Thanks Mike I do hope so I even put bubble wrap on my feet thinking this would help sounds crazy I know but I would try anything lol.

I am lucky that I don't have much problem with my feet yet, however recently I noticed I was having a problem with one foot if I walked for more than half a mile or so, the underside of my heel started to feel bruised even though there was no obvious sign. A few days of hobbling around and it would heal up until I went for a walk again. I dug out some old padded socks that are designed for long distance runners (I never did running but they helped when out walking), double layered to help keep the feet dry and extra padding around the heel and the toes. They worked so well that I went back to the sports shop and bought another few pairs. They aren't cheap but they might be worth it. Try asking at a good sports shop if you have one nearby.

Hi Ruth B thanks for replying I shall look into socks never wear them but maybe it is something I should look into, seems I have so many questions to ask but some sound silly for example I got up took my reading which was 6.3 my feet were burning like mad,I had to do a sample today to send off to the hospital so sorted that out now as if by magic my feet are ok for the moment so I know it sounds silly but what is the connection with my feet and my wee?

I'm very new with this feet problem stuff.. It's hurts like crazy.. Worst pain I believe I ever felt .. My feet pain accures 80% of my day ..

Welcome to the forum Andrew,I know exactly how you feel,I wish I had the answers the only thing I do know is that putting bubble wrap on your feet doesn't help either lol Take Care Andrea.

As a diabetic you are entitled to have your feet checked by a podiatrist every 12 months, your Dr can refer you over or you can self-refer yourself, I know you've already seen a Neurologist but a Podiatrist will check your feet and footwear and see if there's anything they can see what might be causing the discomfort.

My feet feel like they are burning at times also sometimes very cold and numb,it dosent seem to be anything to do with blood suger levels.
I bought some lovely comfortable shoes that I ware outside ,and inside as slippers Sketchers Go Walk,I bought them on e bay, they have helped a lot.

Even though I don't have major problems yet, I decided to opt for comfort over fashion a long time ago, which may be part of the reason I don't have too many problems.

I tend to get trainers from a specialist sports shop where they can make sure that the trainers fit properly and suit my feet. They even have a tread mill that I can use to try them out, far more effective than a couple of paces up and down the shop. They can also give advise if they notice that you have problems like over pronating, which while normally associated with running can effect walking as well.

I'll also add that the time my feet feel like they are burning is when I have let them go cold, when they start to warm up they feel like I have just stepped into a too hot bath, its one of the reasons I try not to let them get cold, shoes, socks totes (slipper socks) and hot water bottles (in a fur fabric case, or wrapped in a towel to prevent burning my feet) are all common place for me.

Hi Ruth's it's one of the most common symptoms neuropathy in the feet and legs/ hands, from experience it's very disturbing and kept me awake most nights, but ,after finding the forum here and listening to those who have for the most part overcome this, by changing their eating habits to lchf , it is reversible! And additional benefits will come your way as you get fitter and lose body fat,I hope you start getting rid of your neuropathy soon,

Thank you I shall speak to the nurse in a few weeks time.

Hi Patricia21 the burning feeling is awful, everyday this is a big problem for me I bought the sketchers they are so comfortable I also bought a pair of hotters shoes they are expensive but so comfortable worth every penny also have really good sales,My son has a pair for school and my daughter who is at Uni wears them as she is on her feet all day.

I don't think mines neuropathy, or if it is I have suffered it since I was a child and I was only diagnosed when I was borderline diabetic about 5 years ago. No tingling, no pins and needles, fine as long as I don't let them go cold, poor circulation is in the family so it might be related to that.

Hi Ruth B have to agree sensible shoes over fashion any day, especially knowing now what I know, still love looking at shoes but don't buy anymore didn't really have a big shoe thing going on more into trainers.Keep Well Andrea.

Just curious has anybody got or tried one of the foot massagers that are meant to help with circulation,I was told that when my feet burn cool them down in some tepid water not sure by who now.

The foot massager's are not recommended for people with diabetes, I think most will come with a warning in the product details and instructions booklet. I can't see why cooling your feet in tepid water would be a problem, if you have nerve damage to the feet then it's best to check the temperature with your hands first before putting your feet into the water.

My feet swing from feeling burning to freezing many times in the course of a day.
