I am a type 2 diabetic....I drink at least (2) 8.5 oz red bulls every am before work. I know its addictive as I have stopped drinking it for a few days and even a couple of weeks before but always come back as I begin to crave them. A while back someone told me thatthey contained nicotine, so I began looking up their ingredients. one of them (can't remember which one) is actually a form of "Liquid NICOTINE". As a former smoker, I know what the cravings feel like..no wonder I'm having trouble staying away from them! I intend to quit again but this time for good. If anyone has any further research on the nicotine angle, please reply. Thanks

Oh dear

Red bull is poison, especially for a type2 diabetic :(

Edit: only my opinion
Yesssss....I know.......:( I used to drink too....quit smoking and drinking 15 years ago...gained 45 lbs, and became diabetic....but, I can breath now and I know know where I parked my car last night.....;)....thanks for support.

I had no idea it contained nicotine, but it does contain a load of sugar and caffeine so won't be doing your diabetes any favours. Perhaps it is these you crave?

As a former smoker, it is my understanding that nicotine is out of your system within 3 days of your last hit. Good luck.

I agree with Andy here about it being poison. Even if it did you no harm, it isn't doing you any good.

Never drunk a Red bull drink in my life, not keen on canned drinks :yuck: So no idea what is would taste of,
does it have any taste ?

RRB :)

Red Bull Energy Drink contains a combination of high quality ingredients: Taurine, Caffeine, B-Vitamins, Sucrose, Glucose and Alpine Spring Water.

At least that's THEIR claim, not mine. It's a disgusting drink

Mike :)

I'll take your word for it Mike, it does sound :yuck:

Oh dear. You seriously need to stop taking these. The sugar in them for starters will massively impact on your blood glucose. Which is BAD very bad for you. The caffeine is probably more the addiction you have. Seriously you have Diabetes and your drinking red bull. Seriously big face palm. Cannot believe you even asked the question. The sugar in them increases your risk of type 2 diabetes and you have it. Shakes head in disbelief. :(

Swap to sugar free redbull? has to be a little bit better for your BS. I used to be absolutely hooked on energy drinks there is definitely something about them. High blood sugar can make you tired and my way of combating it was to have an energy drink. Sugar filled ones before I was diagnosed T2 now T1 and sugar free after but still the caffeine did a number on my sleep patterns. No energy drinks now, still a little bit hooked on diet coke.

Hi @RAYpi777,

I'm the same I cannot believe that you are taking the Red Bull being diabetic.

Do you actually know where your sugars are after you have drunk these?, are you testing?

Neil
Ps Spoke to someone this week, was having Lucozade, 1 a day every morning, he had just been diagnosed with a HbA1c of 157

Just imagine the sheer number of people (teens especially) that are drinking (and have been drinking) this rubbish for years. You may as well eat a bag of sugar.

yes..thats what I have been drinking...no sugar low carbs....my justification to continue if you will....made it all day without one....was tempted earlier when I went out...at least I thought about it but, grabbed some H20 instead.

actually my numbers have been good in am (124) b4 i eat anything.... and after I take my meds, I recheck and it drops to around 90 and if I don't eat, on down to 70....thats when I get dizzy. when I don't follow procedure, its been up to 189 before....very rarely though.

I used to drink 4-8 redbull or monsters a day, since the T1 diagnosis I've cut down to a six pack of sugar free redbulls every two weeks.

I used to have a very high paid/high stress/ high hour job and my breakfast would be 2 redbulls, 2 snickers and 4 marlbro Reds. An average day was 4-8 redbulls, 40 marlbro Reds, two double cheese burgers, 4 lagers and a joint then bed. I did that for 7 years straight getting one day off a month.

Ahh the life of a massive corporation executive lol!

I quit all that to become healthier and within two years I get diagnosed with fukin type 1, ain't that a *****!!!

What do they do to your blood glucose?
it causes my bp to go up some....not sure om BS but from what I have seen in past testing, BS seems to be ok...but thats due to METformin doing its thing...I'm a little worried about my H1AC though...doc says its creeping up....working on diet.... need this forum as every one keeps telling me to get off all energy drinks,,,,in my case BULLS

In the states they sell monsters in 1.75 pint cans called BFC cans (big fu£&@/ Can)

I dread to think how much sugar was in one of those and I'd down one regular on the way to work.
