Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Cutting back on portion size. Cutting back on things with sugar.
Trying to loose some weight
Have been doing gym 3/4 times a week but have been unable to do so due to work shifts

Hopefully get some guidance next week as I have my first clinic appointment. Bee diagnosed for 18 months and not had an appointment till bow

18 months? Oh dear. It's not just sugar you need to keep an eye on, but any carb content and even protein to a lesser degree as all of these can end up as blood sugar.

No I did the actual test today. But took my own readings alongside the formal blood test. I took a test at 1hr And a few minutes either side of their blood draw.

What did they say at the surgery?

I didn't do the test at my surgery but at the hospital. So I nipped into the bogs to shoot up before going for my proper test!! I'll bring up the big 1hr reading when I see my GP in the coming weeks

Hola

Firstly does anyone know how to add the signature box on replies. I'm using the mobile app and thought I'd cracked it but it seems to have cracked me. Feeling naked!

On my prescription glucorx meter I had 5 (whoo hoo) but I have just self funded an optimum neo for ketone testing, got some blood strips too. Same hand different finger came in at 5.6 (booooo).

Has anyone got an opinion on the accuracy of either of these meters ( both in acceptable range using tai doc - so same solution - glucorx came in at 8.6 and neo 8.4?

Cheers.

Ok, so they did a venous blood sample rather than a finger test? Apologies for all the questions, just curious :)

Meters are only rated to be accurate to within 15-20%. So the variability you have there is within the range.

Hi and welcome. To have a rise from 9.5 to 16.4 after breakfast perhaps tells you that your breakfast needs amending? That is a huge rise. It is wise to keep any rise from before to after a meal to under 2mmol/l, ideally under 1.5mmol/l. I suspect you had cereal with milk? Or toast?

I do have cereal with skimmed milk, my pre-lunch ready was 16, haven't done post yet, only just had it

I think it's best to do that via the profile on a PC rather than a tablet/smartphone. Just hover over your name top right to get access to the signature editing page.

If you want to see lower post breakfast levels, I suggest you ditch the cereal and skimmed milk. This will be doing you no favours, no matter what type of cereal it is. It is full of carbs. (look on the nutrition label. It will tell you how many). Most of us on here have eggs done any which way, or a fry up of bacon, eggs, tomato, mushrooms, 97% meat sausage. Or a full fat yogurt with a few berries and/or seeds added. Skimmed milk has more sugar than whole milk, most low fat products are also heavy on the sugar and carbs. It is better to have the real product, and better for your general health, too.

A lower post breakfast level will mean a lower pre-lunch level.

Unbelievable last night 8:00 pm my reading 7.1 for the first time in two years I'm so happy

Cereal as well as milk have carbs. Even unsweetened cereal has starch and this will eventually become blood sugar. Milk contains lactose, which is more easily and, therefore more quickly, converted into blood glucose. Skimmed milk has just as much lactose in it as full fat milk.

6;6 today. Got a dental abcess and feeling fed up and sore. Off to see another dentist today to see if tooth can be saved - if not extraction and a whopping bill for Implant.
Painful, hope it can be cleared wth antibot.

I could never afford them (implants) so it's partial denture and gaps for me. Few thousand apiece aren't they?

Or unsweetened soya milk

Hi everyone. 6.6 this morning. Great to see so many people doing well. Makes it easier with us all working together.
