Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Not tested for a day and a bit as I was waiting for new strips to arrive. This morning was 7.7, a bit high for my liking but weekends are topsy turvy for me with meals and sleep times.
ah, crazy shifts, yes...... your body isn't going to be sure what a FASTING reading is - not by regular night/day patterns.

I wouldn't worry too much about your fastings as long as your pre and post readings are kept well in line....

No wonder bs high again got an early present from Easter bunny another chest infection on docxicylone this time for 2 weeks roll on blood cell count coming up then I can have drain replaced

6.5 fasting this morning and 7.0 after eating.

Last 7 days averages:
fasting: 6.4
pre meal: 6.5
post meal: 6.9
overall: 6.6

Last 30 days averages:
fasting: 6.4
pre meal: 6.8
post meal: 7.0
overall: 6.8

In spite of very similar figures my pre meal readings have reduced from 19 out of 74 being above my target (of 7.0 ) to 1 in 21 above, so I'm quite pleased as these have been an ongoing problem for me and have been much higher than I want to see. LCHF keeps me to mainly low/no post meal spikes, but doesn't seem to have been helping in my battle to keep my general levels down...so this was good to see.

Hi Baruney
Hope you don't mind me saying but I don't think this thread is quite the place to be talking politics..... maybe if you start your own thread to cover your election views?

Hola don't mind at all but I was talking about beer and sausages not politics. Agree with you entirely but originsl comment Seems to have veered off in that direction though. Life is far too short to start a polical debate not that I believe I expressed any?

Thanks Jan so do. Feeling OK just tired of coughing and been whezzy. Dad says he will get me s dog lead cause I am barking.

Porridge itself may be enough to raise your blood sugars too high because of the carbohydrates in it..... you may be best changing to a cooked breakfast like bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, omelette. If you DO have porridge do you make it with water or milk? if you use milk try unsweetened soya milk instead.... or Almond milk (also unsweetened)..... pinhead oats or oatmeal may not be so bad for you as rolled oats.... they seem to release the carbs more slowly. SOME people can't seem to manage any amount of carbs especially for breakfast though their tolerance increases throughout the day.

I was only in the pre-diabetic range of diagnosis and diet change has led me to having a normal HbA1c..... Most of us would suggest a lower carbohydrate diet - some people like the book Carbs & Calories and I use The GI GL Counter by Wynnie Chan - the first of these two books is available in pocket size or a bigger version and has pictures of meals shown on a plate (it gives the plate size) so you don't need to weigh stuff out but I gave mine away and just use the other...... I bought mine off eBay for under a fiver.... I think I got the carbs and cals off Amazon through a DUK website link....

I guess I haven't really answered your question about sweetener but if I sweeten mine I use Jordan's Skinny syrups in lots of flavours - sold for drinks/cocktails but also nice in porridge (if you can tolerate it without your bs going too high) but I know that you would also have to buy that too....

Again, if you do have porridge make sure you weigh your oats out - I tend to make my own mix with nuts and seeds and a small amount of dried fruit (but best you don't add that yet) along with unsweetened bran sticks and some oats. My weighed amount is around 70-80 grams - but that is my own personal tolerance....

I know there's such a lot to take in to start with so hope I've not bombarded you too much.

Hope this helps .....

40g with soya milk and cinnamon I find is ok for me but if I've learnt one think since being on this forum its that we all react differently to different food stuff so its a case of trial , test and error :)

One of my dogs actually thinks I'm barking at him when I cough - and he get quite anxious!

I've always really "barked" when I get a cough since I was a little girl, and I know how much it can hurt, so I hope you get rid of yours asap.

6.1 this morning... strep throat kicking in.... weekend.... it's all coming together...
Take care and have a goodie
How horrid.... take care and keep warm... I hope it goes over quickly, but fear it won't...

Morning all

Big bounce in the wrong direction. Up to 6.6 and blood ketones a misery 0.3. Curse of the commentator is back obviously. Weather - after yesterday's sterling efforts - grey wet drizzle expected to last pretty much all day. But then again it's a British bank holiday weekend so what was I expecting!

Right now that's out of the way....

The bulletproof coffee is kicking in nicely, looking forward to a big juicy omelette, Folkestone 10 mile race at 11am and there's a nice light southerly wind (if it's easterly or westerly and strong the run to Folkestone or back is really hard work). Oh and new avatar.

Game on!
Good morning, Happy Easter... :) Have a great run... man you're good... love the new avatar and the logo you're running for...
