DVLA Revoking Licence!

I may be totally in the wrong place here but if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful!

Short version is this:
DVLA informs me that they are changing my licence as I am T1. This is fine, I've sent my licence off the day after I was notified, and posted back with my form via 1st class recorded.
I just checked today to see that it arrived, as I posted it 2 weeks ago.
Royal Mail have lost my letter, it never even made it out of the post office!!!!! They've suggested I fill out a claim form, but this is the least of my worries! I need to be able to drive for my job etc. Now I'm worried I won't make the April 6th deadline especially with it being Easter!
I will ring the DVLA tomorrow, but I am furious, I just wondered if anyone had any experience and could maybe prepare me for what's next?
Thank you x

Not being able to eat as many chocolate digestives as I used to.
Most people find that DVLA are usually quite helpful when you talk to them. You can't be the first person this has happened too, you probably will not be the last, and you have proof of posting. So I wouldn't worry until after you've spoken to them.

That's unfortunate, just ring the DVLA and explain what's happened and that you've been in contact with the Post Office about your missing letter, they'll likely tell you there and then if you can continue to drive.

What was the deadline for btw?

Thanks, I hope it can be sorted out, I think I'm just angry more than anything.
I'm newly/newish diagnosed, so having let the DVLA know they now need to change my licence to 3 year one.
To be fair their notification letter they sent me was more than contradictory of itself. Made me laugh! I'm not appealing it though, little point.
It makes sense and I'm fairly in control of my BS for the time being.... Just with the Bank Holidays coming up the letter only gave me around 3 weeks to get it back by

My son sent his renewal form by recorded delivery but tracking was not showing on the Royal Mail website. He phoned DVLA one week later and was told that his application had been registered that morning. The licence arrived a total of 18 days after posting.

I'm sure you'll be fine, as Urbanacer says the people at the DVLA are helpful in my own experience and will try their best to help you tomorrow,.

I renewed my licence last year and they took around 8 weeks to send it back as they were carrying out some checks, as my licence was soon to run out I rang them and asked would I still be able to drive, they assured me I would as the matter was being dealt with, so just explain your circumstances to them and hopefully they'll say whether you can continue to drive beyond the 6th April, good luck.

I was told Britain is the only country in the EU that DON'T like insulin lorry drivers & that the Uk diabetic association was trying to get it overturned. But after 7yrs since the DVLA took my 3.5ton Van & 7.5 tonner licence of me (even though I passed there specialised eye test) I'd been a delivery driver for over 15yrs too. It's wrong the way we diabetics get treated you ask me.

If you passed all the relevant diabetes control tests then you can have your licence back if haven't complied then you can't. So what is it you didn't do?

Hi CarbsRok.
I was only asked to goto there options in Deal, where they do all the tests for the DVLA. I went they did a field & vision examination.Once I'd finished the option told me I passed with flying colours 99/100. They sent the results of to tge DVLA rwks or so later I received my license bk & a letter telling me I still couldn't drive 3.5-7.5toners. NO reasoning why not :-(

Then you need to ask why.
Did you provide the 3 months worth of blood test results, have you had any bad hypos that have needed help?

No I was told to provide 3 months worth of blood results. I thought my GP would of send them em,as I send my diabetic nurse the results at the end of the month. I think I've only ever had 4-5 hypos in the 15yrs of being a diabetic m8. When I phoned DVLA after they told me about my license, they told me I had to apeal.Bit being dyslexic I didn't :-(

The responsibility of sending in the test results was down to you and no one else. Hence no licence.

If you originally acquired the right to drive 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes because you took the standard car driving test before 1st January 1997 the right to drive will not be automatically renewed when:-
a) Your licence needs to be renewed from age 70;
b) Your licence is restricted to 1, 2 or 3 years for medical reasons;
c) you have re-applied for a licence after a refusal or revocation for medical reasons or for non-compliance.

So if you've only been driving trucks after taking a standard car driving test then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Diet only
I have found DVLA most helpful once getting through to someone to talk to. I have T2 and have explained that its controlled by diet/tabs and exercise. I have been driving since June 1980 - was infromed of the diabetes in 2005 and have continued to drive with no effects on my driving ability or any restrictions placed on my licence.

Although I am reading that if I am put onto insulin then that is a new ball game, with restrictions and perhaps the licence reviewed. Puts me off going on to insulin.

My husband was put on insulin in March he rang DVLA who said he was not allow to drive HGV. He received a letter saying that only a reapplication would be considered when - No hypo event requiring the assistant of another person has occurred in previous 12 months - there is no evidence of impaired awareness of hypo and 3 months testing. We contested this as if he hasn't got his licence back in 12 months he won't have a job!! The doctor and nurse wrote to DVLA with 3 months of proof of his testing. DVLA are still looking at the case it could be 9 weeks!! In the mean time my husband isn't driving HGV! Can anyone help as nobody seems to have had this 12 months bit on any letters except my husband. He has good levels and good testing.

Yes Steve insulin is another ball game entirely esp with the DVLA. HVG driving is my husband life, he can not read or write well. He got his licence when he was 21. He feels insulin is a death sentence at the moment, although its probably saving his life.

SO a I right in thinking that as its my husbands first time in applying for his HGV being on insulin it could take a year!! So a year of not driving? or is it a year getting through all the consultants etc? Also can I ask. My husband sometimes doesn't drive at weekends - does he still have to test twice a day? His type 2 but insulin and tablet dep. the diabetic nurse says no - as his not driving - not sure what DVLA say?
