    Outrageous. What a disgrace

Or, in the real world, you could grab 100 people, find that 8 of them have eleveated BG that would be diagnosed as diabetes and notice that only seven of them have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Found this on DUK homepage ! Scary if true !

Yes, I am aware of those numbers but I wouldn't worry about it too much since there is nothing we can do about it; as for motivation, I think the risk of losing my limbs and vision is already plenty of motivation to keep an BG numbers under control.

    Settle a disagreement

I'd just eat the meal and subtract the 12g (or whatever the meter advises) from the carbs you enter for the meal - what matters is that you have some carbs not covered by insulin to raise BG, so you can either have your usual breakfast with your usual insulin and eat extra carbs, or have your...

    whey protien

Dunno, I've mostly heard about people using things like almond flour in their baking but I guess whey may be cheaper (being a waste product of the dairy industry), but buying flavoured mixes may limit your flexibility.

Can Glucose intolerance be mistaken for type 1

Yes - beta cell loss is gradual, and exercise may help make what little insulin is left last longer... but eventually you'll hit a wall and require insulin. I'm pretty sure I've read a few threads by T1s who were initially misdiagnosed.

    Diabetic Tattoo

If they don't understand what "type 1 diabetes" means than they still see the "diabetes" part, and as such "type 1 diabates" is no worse than just "diabetes" whilst conveying more information if the medic is familiar with the term.

    Diabetic Tattoo

Well, unless they were to reverse the meaning entirely I don't see the problem - for example, you still recognize what "insulin dependent diabetes" means even though the term is now deprecated.

    waiting in A and E

Yes, if you are not acutely dying (heart attack, bleeding out from major trauma, etc) you may have to wait a bit in A&E although I'm not sure why your GP didn't send you to A&E to begin with.

    Flu jab - any opinions?

Flu and the common cold are two completely different things, and both being viruses your dentist's antibiotics couldn't possibly have done anything either.

Should we do as we are told?

That's is exactly why I would recommend that you follow your doctor's instructions - you don't know enough statistics to realize that your anecdotes carry no weight, and I doubt that you have the statistical knowledge to make an educated decision about which drugs are best. Your doctor, on the...

Anonymous Question Are fruit juices ok?

IMHO the main issue is that you will casually drink a lot more in juice than you'd eat in the form of fruit - e.g. you need 4 oranges for one cup of juice, and you probably wouldn't eat 4 oranges with your breakfast.

Aspirin - Good or Bad for Type 1 Diabetes?

The risks of taking aspirin are well known - increased risk of GI bleeds and such. If the drug had benefits then you might weigh them against the risks of taking the drug, but since aspirin did not reduce the risk of fatal or non fatal heart attacks UNLESS you already have a history of heart...

    Is diabetes a sugar intolerance?

No, that's just clever wordplay; just because two conditions may have superficial similarities to a layman doesn't mean they are identical.

    CGM information please

Yes. CGMs measure the glucose concentration in interstitial fluid, which will lag behind blood glucose levels. All CGMs work like this (you'd have to insert the sensor into an artery to get around that or something). That means that a CGM can't tell you if your BG right now is < 4mmol/l...
