    Misdiagnosed type 1

Hello all, so have rang doctor back just to ask for a second opinion. Was feeling confident, but this has made me doubt things a little. Will update when I know. Thank you all

    Misdiagnosed type 1

Yes has a C-peptide which he said was normal and antibodies are negative, he did say a small percent a negative for antibodies. But he genuinely believed it was not diabetes

    Misdiagnosed type 1

He did tell me to keep an eye once a month on my levels, and will continue to see them annually just to ensure everything was still ok.

    Misdiagnosed type 1

Yes he mentioned LADA, but said he thought it was extremely unlikely. He said he personally hasn’t know a case of DKA, where it wasnt type 1 or anorexic or alcoholic, but he said strange things happen and perhaps we will never know why the DKA happened. But he said with some certainty it wasn’t...

    Honeymoon period experiences

The consultant today has told me he is very confident I was misdiagnosed with type 1. He couldn’t say what caused the DKA, but he was almost certain I was not diabetic. I understand it’s very very rare and usually people are but people should know it does happen! Thank you all on here for all...

    Misdiagnosed type 1

Hello, I was diagnosed in June after DKA as a type 1. I was on insulin for 3 months before my levels were fine and I was using none eventually. I was tested for antibodies which came back negative. The doctors assured me I was type 1 and this was just a good honeymoon period, though I...

    GAD antibody negative

Yes had my HBA1C done 2 weeks ago it was 33. Well the paramedic said my BG was 14, my ketones levels were 6.1, never told anything else, never had a HBA1C in hospital. Yes was treated with insulin intravenously then started on 42U spread across bolus and basal. But my needs reduced until I...

    GAD antibody negative

Sorry maybe I didn’t make it clear. I was replying to the previous message that was suggesting weight loss would help control type 2 diabetes if that’s what I had. Was saying I’ve not changed my diet since diagnosis. So didn’t think I was controlling it through weight loss after diagnosis. But...

    Was T1

Slightly confused are you saying your no longer type 1?

    GAD antibody negative

I mean I ate well the initial month or two after diagnosis but then have gone back to my normal diet and there’s no change in my BG levels. They are normal at between 4/5 before meals, 6-7 in half hour after eating before going back down within an hour or less. Sometimes spikes to 8 but very...

    GAD antibody negative

I have wondered if it could be type 2, I was overweight until a year or two ago were I lost considerable weight, I’m 26. Would be levels be normal without any medication or eating healthy if I was type 2? Do they have some sort of honeymoon phase?

    GAD antibody negative

And that’s what the doctors keep telling me, but if everything else points to me not have type 1. People can go into DKA without diabetes surely? I know everyone wants to be the odd case, and I’m sure everyone believes they are the exception. I just feel without antibody or an initial HBA1C...

    GAD antibody negative

I was diagnosed in June. Why are there not any clear, reliable tests haha. There were just a lot of factors in the days and weeks leading up to my diagnosis which make me think it’s not diabetes.

    GAD antibody negative

I’m not really sure the DN said she would do antibody test GAD she didn’t mention any others. The nurse emailed saying the test was negative and the consultant will be in contact soon to let me know what it may mean. No initial antibodies done and no initial HBA1C was done. Diagnosed on being...

    GAD antibody negative

Yeh I have heard not all type 1s have a positive GAD. I have no idea how it works haha, but I would have assumed if you were in your honeymoon period it would be higher cause there would be more antibodies attacking it than later on when all the cells are gone? I may look very stupid cause...
