Hi
Newcomer to the forum thing...! Any help would be massively appreciated!
I’m 23 (nearly 24), T1D since the age of 4/5, so safe to say I don’t really know a life without stabbing myself 10-20 times a day. And because of this I may have just mumbled along and didn’t really take in anything that happened diabetes related. I did my am and pm injections and always tested my blood first thing and last thing but everything else in between was totally non illness related.
However, recently it has occurred to me that when i went to uni that no body really helped at all and because I’d been diabetic so long I didn’t think to ask or do anything because I basically forgot I needed regular check ups! So the 3 years of uni were up and I finally got that letter reminder to go to the doctors. So I went and got a massive telling off and I just gave up completely with caring because that’s what they all did to me...
Now I’m (almost) 24 and I have recently started speaking to the most fantastic nurse (who long story short helped me get a new blood machine when mine of 12 years died!) and she’s saying all these new things about how I test and when I inject and everything and I’m now feeling like I have actually no idea what I’m doing! Apparently the regime I used most people stop doing that when they are a child but as no one told me otherwise I plodded along doing the same thing!
Honestly feeling at a loss here with everything, i thought I knew what I was doing up until 2 weeks ago and now I think I need to be shown how to do a blood test again ...
I’m hoping one of you lovely people has read all my psycho babble and might be able to lend some advice or help in any way!
