    Remission

What terrific news! Well done indeed.

    Will I need insulin eventually?

Another battle-scarred ED veteran here. I have not had an active ED for decades, but my relationship with food and nutrition remained pretty much 100% bonkers until metabolic trouble finally led me to low carb. A new understanding of how much better I felt and functioned when fuelled on...

    Airplane food

My guess is that, even if they did a T2D option, it would be based on the ‘official’ advice of low-fat and ‘heart-healthy’ whole grains, so probably wouldn’t be much to our taste.

    Undiagnosed

The NHS is the fattest golden goose of all, and I think Zoe’s strategy is to make its big move there. My guess is that it’s positioning itself accordingly: ‘You guys had a big problem and then came us!’ etc. I wouldn’t bet against them! They did great work during Covid with their symptom app...

DD Hava app, are you trying it

Diet Doctor was a revelation to me and helped so much. I just have a hunch that Hava is aiming to be more of a mainstream thing, and I suspect that DD with its clear and undiluted low-carb focus is better suited to my metabolic circs. But I am very interested to hear how people get on with Hava.

Irish equivalent of the Eatwell Plate

You’re quite right. Sorry. I was being too facetious about a serious matter.

Irish equivalent of the Eatwell Plate

You’re on the right site here. It’s a pity that there’s a bit of a ‘Diabetic People’s Republic’ -v- ‘The People’s Republic of Diabetes’ thing going on between this red site and the blue one, but it’s maybe a fair reflection of the current state of flux in scientific understanding and practice...

Why can't Type 2 be cured?

It’s a tricky word, ‘cure’, isn’t it. There something similar going on in my MS world. Some argue that for the newly-diagnosed who have not had much damage yet, an HSCT stem cell treatment offers something indistinguishable from a cure. For those like me who have been accumulating permanent...

My new HbA1c test result is...

It would be nice to think that what the GP wants to chat about is how the heck you managed that A1c improvement!

Newly Diagnosed (Scotland) and Overwhelmed :-(

I have an ED history too. AN in my case. In remission, more or less, for decades, but my relationship with food remained basically haywire until metabolic health concerns finally led me to forget about calories, lower carbs and concentrate on proper nutrition for the first time ever. It has...

    Freshly Diagnosed

Well done, quitting the smokes. For a month or two I just had to take it on trust that life could be worth living without them. (Plot spoiler: it was/is.) There’s no single bigger thing you can do for your health. And once you’ve done that, well basically you know you can do anything.

    Chesty cough medicine.

I like A Vogel Ivy-Thyme complex. You put a few drops in a small glass of water and sip. As far as I can understand there’s no sugar in it. It is surprisingly effective, in my experience.

Interesting T2D Article in todays Guardian

Thank you - I would have missed this if you had not drawn attention to it. This site and its contributors are ahead of the game in so many ways!

Cauliflower rice - which type of blender do you use?

Supermarket frozen cauliflower rice tends to be quite fairly priced. It’s no more processed than if you did it yourself (but minus the extra knuckle protein) and a frequent purchase in this house.

    Overwhelmed thanks to Dr Google

Don’t worry about feeling snappy and grumpy when you’re reducing carbs. Your body (and your gut microbes) are used to what they’re used to, and have ways of resisting change (even change for the better). That will settle when your new way of eating becomes established.
